Most of these were created out of the recognition that one size does not fit all. Many of them use a more psychological approach than the 12 Step programs do; most have some sort of group support model with regular group meetings for members. Some are actively opposed to the religious or spiritual tone found in 12 Step groups, while a few embrace a specific kind of spirituality.
