I had no idea there was a Nicotine Anonymous group....wow. I could still use this even though I haven't had a smoke for several years (I'm not even sure how long...but, it must be something like four or five). I could still start up again, but the thought of going through those withdrawl pangs again just keeps me out of reach when those butts are around. Even yesterday, there I was...sitting in the sun at an event...in full garb...and there...in front of me...just two feet away...a half a pack of Marlboro....man, it just flashed through my head.."maybe, I could have just one".....they weren't even my smokes...but, I didn't care one iota.....it only lasted a minute, but that minute seems to last an hour. Yeah.....I'll visit this group....I am a nicotine addict.....a REAL nicotine addict..... and one smoke is all I need to be back in the four or five pack a day habit (doncha just crack up when those folks say, "I only smoke one or two packs a day"........I say inside my head..."Liars!!! 'I only had two, officer' " What a wonderful day....

I hear you Troll. When I think "I could have just one" I remember how bad I sounded before I quit (wheezing, coughing which would wake me up off and on all night). I also remember when I have quit before and started back smoking and how I felt after taking that first puff which was usually nauseated and dizzy. I just don't wish to feel any of that again. It's been almost 5 months for me and I feel so much better. I also didn't gain any extra weight because I quit. I have been trying eat better and watch what I eat and get exercise. Glad there are others like yourself around who share their esh which encourages us newbies to not smoking. Continuing on one day at a time. :42:

The most I have been able to quit is for a month, unfortunately I picked up again. Then I got worse, I went from a light cigarette to a heavy draw. Nicotine Anonymous huh? Sounds interesting can someone tell me more about this, I just don't see it happening where I live.

Hiya Mello.....
Yeah, I understand that...you see, for me, when I "quit", it was just like the daily misery I experienced with alcohol. I'm not altogether sure, but when I just started stopping by giving up and using the steps (well, it wasn't perfect, but I did it on my own...no one else to fellowship with), I have been able to not start up again. I just decided not to smoke for "a day or two" and it went on from there.....it just became a daily one day at a time thing. I found that I smoked like I drank...and for some of the same reasons....besides, I was just as addicted to nicotine as I was alcohol. Now, this whole nicotine annonymous thing is just as new to me as you. We'll both have to examine it more.

Here is a link for Nicotine Anonymous Online http://www.nicotine-anonymous.org/ . They appear to have f2f and internet meetings listed. I haven't thoroughly checked them out yet though. I have been quit for almost 5 months. I just decided to quit March 16th this year and have continued on from there taking it one day at a time doing like I did when I got sober - working the steps. I haven't attended any meetings. My big reliance has been on God through all of this.
