Loving Yourself
Loving yourself means wanting to be the person God created you to be, and doing those things that God wants you to do. It means desiring to attain the attitudes that will make you mature, and bringing to fruition the potentials that God has placed within you.
Anyone living in this way forms himself according to the mind of God who desires all people to grow into the fullness he plans for them. If this is what love of self means, then it seems clear what the love of neighbor should mean. Loving one's neighbor would entail helping someone to grow into the fullness that God has planned for him. Both the love of self and the love of neighbor would have a similar meaning, and with its realization, people would come to experience the joy of a caring human community.
Lord, may I achieve a clearer understanding of a Christian love of self, and may I apply that understanding to the way I love others.
