In my few years in the program.... I have not spent a lot of time helping others in the program in a practical way... such as going for coffee, taking calls, spending time, driving them to meetings. I dont feel I haver resisted it, it just doesnt seem to have fit into my life.

I am often called upon to speak at speaker meetings or chair. This is more in keeping with my background and business experience. I guess you could say that these things feel like they come more naturally. Frankly, they are easy.

Yesterday, a buddy in the program who had really been there for me in practical ways when I relapsed a couple times, called me and was really struggling. He is on a pain med which is buggering up his moods. He was very tempted to go buy a bottle of booze but called me instead. I went out of my way to go meet him for coffee. We then went to a meeting together at a time that I would have otherwise felt I could not afford the time.

I tell you.... it was most amazing thing. I felt an aspect of my own personal growth and recovery like I have never felt. I felt so a part of our community and fellowship. And this was only one small bit of practical service. I actually had something of value to share that helped both him and me. What an amazing thing.

I love this program and what it has done for my life. It continues to amaze me.
