Looking at it one way, you could say, "Anything goes. Because of God's immense generosity and grace, we don't have to dissect and scrutinize every action to see if it will pass muster." But the point is not to just get by. We want to live well, but our foremost efforts should be to help others live well. (1 Corinthians 10:23-24 — The Message)
Anything in excess can hurt or kill you; you can even drink too much water and die. We have all heard that everything is OK in moderation and that may be true on one level. But as far as our physical and mental well-being, not everything, even in moderation, is the best for us. And that is the point. Do we want what is best or do we just want to get by in life?
God has a great and wondrous plan for our lives. God wants us to live well, live life to the fullest, to have an abundant life, a life worth living. This life is more that just choosing to become a follower of Jesus. Yes, God does want us to make that choice, but there is much, much more to His plan. He wants us to live well, to see life as an adventure, to enjoy and anticipate life. It is not something to simply be endured. When we choose to accept anything less than living the best we can we are not just short-changing God; we are also short-changing ourselves.
This is not meant to be taken as "rules and regulations". You know me better than that. This is all about choosing the best because of our great love for God and our love for ourselves. I never want anyone to do anything out of duty or obligation (doing something because you feel you have to, not because you want to). My hope is you will choose the right things because of your great love for God and all that He has done for you and all that He has called you to. Choose the best out of love and gratitude.
Live it with passion,
