Of Hearty Stock

2 Corinthians 10:15 "We hope that your faith will grow and that, still within the limits set for us, our work among you will be greatly enlarged" (TLB).

"I'm tired. Been working non-stop for months. But I'm of hearty stock -- the kind that keeps on going faithfully until we drop. But no matter. Once we drop, then it's all over anyway. Right?" said the head chef of a service-oriented catering company. Do we need to keep pushing and pushing until we collapse of exhaustion and die? Is that God's plan?

We all get tired in the course of fulfilling our daily obligations. But some of us completely wear out working in our service-related businesses, careers, or ministries. It may be difficult for us to acknowledge our limitations, step back, rest and let others take over for awhile.

While we are away recharging our worn-out batteries, the work will go on. It may even grow and prosper. And when we return, we will be better equipped to resume our day-to-day responsibilities.

Lord, Paul recognized he had limits.
So do I.
Right now I need to retreat and rest.
While I'm gone, please continue to do your will
in my work and ministry.
