I just decided to start attending meetings this last Monday. I have been an alcoholic since my first drink at 13 yrs old. It has always appeared to the general public that I have my life pretty much together (except to those closest to me).

Anyway, I have just been known as the "life of the party", "party-girl", people are always putting drinks in my hand. Now, I am making this HUGE change in my life. I have to do this now. But, we had planned a vacation with all of our friends for Thanksgiving. This is the same trip to Mexico we have taken for the last 11 yrs with 6 other families and all the kids.

This resort has happy hour at 11am, 2pm and 4pm daily...what a great excuse for everyone to drink all day! THey even make "virgin" margaritas for the kids to drink....great, training drinks for my 6 yr old!!

I just don't know how to handle this. I am doubling up on meetings for the next 2 weeks. I haven't even discussed this with my husband yet because he has been out of town all week and doesn't know I've joined AA and surrendered.

I really need some advice on how to handle all this!:4:

Hey Julie, Here is a link to a post that contains some helpful posts that may be of help to you: http://www.cyberrecovery.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6956 . If you happen to have computer access during your vacation you can attend online meetings plus stay in touch with all of us here. When I went on vacation to Alaska in July of this year I was able to get on the computer during the entire time. I didn't do any online meetings but I did check in here at the board and at some other recovery sites plus was able to pm and email some friends in recovery. Make sure to take your recovery literature with you to read. You can also check in the areas where you will be and see if there are any types of meetings there. There are plenty of things to do on your vacation besides drinking. Check out the brochures for the area you are going and you can also check it out online and see what activities are offered. One of the best things to do is to make a plan for what you are going to do for each day and also decide ahead of time what you will do if you happen to get the urge to drink and what your response will be if you are asked. I also prayed everyday and stayed connected with God throughout each and everyday.

Take it one day at a time - sometimes breaking that down into minutes and seconds. Keep coming and sharing with us. We are here for you. :42:

good idea to double up on meetings right now, Julie. Tammy made a lot of great suggestions too.

Hey Julie,
I will keep you in my prayers. Great advice from from Tammy. I know in Feb we always have a Super bowl party, and everyone there was used to me drinking.. I was worried about how I would handle that situation. I was surprised when nobody really noticed or cared whether I was drinking or not and were very supportive of my decision. All that worry and fear for nothing.

Hi Julie. Does your husband think your an alcoholic?

Along with all of the great suggestions Tammy made I would let my husband know what is going on. His support isn't going to keep you sober for the rest of your life but it might help get you through your vacation.
