Hi all, my name is Maria and I'm an alcoholic/addict. I have been in and out of recovery for a long time (20 years?). I KNOW you never have it down, but naturally I thought I did (still think I do?). Anyway, am here to talk to some folks that know me cause I'm surrounded by folks who've had the incredible luck of being born "normal."

Hello Maria
Glad you found the site. Your post caught my eye - I have heard that "normal" (Like beauty) is sometimes in the eye of the beholder.
I am cassie, grateful recovering alcoholic. I hope you continue to share your journey with us. I, for one, can't do it alone.

Well hello there Maria my name is Humblepie and I am the token "normal" person on this site.
If I may for a moment I would like to talk about myself.......ok actually I love talking about myself it just happens to be my favorite subject.
First thing about me is whenever anyone accuses me of thinking "it's all about me".........I agree with them  I'm mean.......am I wrong?
This is going to be so much fun I think I just wet myself.
I like taking long romantic walks along the beach watching the sun set over the ocean and puking my guts out because I probably shouldn't have smoked that joint after drinking a fifth of rum assuming of course I can walk. That sand gets pretty tricky when I'm "corked" as the big book would call me. This would be normal for me if I lived near the beach.
Waking up with the desire to drink being the only thing in the world that matters to me is kinda normal. If I'm so nauseas that I can't even eat but I am shaking so bad I have to take a drink so I throw up in the bathroom and then chug down some rum real quick before I get nauseas again........Now that is normal. Some people think that is messed up but they just don't know what fun is. Personally I think they are jealous.
I know the big book says insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Don't tell anyone but I am convinced different results can happen.
I of course can go on but let me just some it all up. As long as I have a fifth of rum by my side everything is normal.
If you don't think that's normal well then -------------> :144:
I look forward to hearing from you Maria, keep coming back. :15:

Hi Maria :17: Nice to meet you. Yes, i have been that way occassionally that i thought i "had it down". That is usually for me when i have gotten to complacent in my recovery. 2 times it took me to a relapse, other times i would usually have some experience happen that would jar me into reality. The reality that i only have a daily repreive contingent on the mainteance of my spiritual condition as the Big Book says.
I like being around people who know me and understand that being fellow recovering alcoholic/addicts, of course. I look forward to getting to know you better.
