Chasing After Paper

Money is a necessary resource within typical modern life. We need it to buy food for our families, clothes to keep us protected from the elements, and it is used to pay rent or mortgages for our homes. We save up money so our children can attend college, use it to buy a car or other safe transportation, and with it our utility bills are paid.

There is no doubting that money has its place in our world, but how many of us give it higher priority than we ought? Somewhere along the line, the borders become blurred, and every waking moment is dominated by thoughts of money; how we can obtain more, or how will we spend it once we find it. We think money will solve our problems and make us happier, but will it?

My dear friend, the truth of the matter is that, as simple as this sounds, money is still only paper. Many of us spend a life-time chasing it and hoping for it; precious time that could be used to appreciate all the riches and blessings already before us!

Money will not turn an ugly heart beautiful.

Nor will it provide a man more character.

Great wealth will not guarantee we will be sickness or disease free, nor can money bring the dead back to life.

Having more money will not instantly make you more attractive, popular or have greater sex appeal.

Prayer for today: "Dear God, please help me to see myself and my life as YOU see me, not how the often money-loving world may regard me. Help me to appreciate the simple beauty of my life, and to strive, not to be rich, but to be what is good, lovely and acceptable in YOUR eyes. And, if I have failed You in any way, God, please forgive me of my past sinful ways, and create in me a new heart. This I ask in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen."
