2 Maccabees 6:18-31. The Lord upholds me-Ps 3:2-7. Luke 19:1-10.
‘Today, salvation has come to this house.’
In the readings today we find two scenes in which love triumphs over everything. Not even to save his life will Eleazar appear to follow the ways of weak compromise. Let us pause for a moment to marvel at such generosity and to beg God’s love to be as strong in our life also.
Then we see Jesus, love of God made visible, moving the heart of Zacchaeus to wonder, and to wholehearted love in response to Jesus’ presence with him.
Jesus, I want to welcome you joyfully, for you bring only peace and forgiveness. Your love triumphs over all my weakness and sin. Look at me and call me.
