Gratitude
From "Accepting God's Gifts:"
"It is necessary for all of us to accept whatever positive
gifts we receive with a deep humility, always bearing in
mind that our negative attitudes were first necessary as
a means of reducing us to such a state that we would be
ready for a gift of the positive ones via the conversion
experience. Your own alcoholism and the immense
deflation that finally resulted are indeed the foundation
upon which your spiritual experience rests."

c. 1967, As Bill Sees It, page 168

When I read this reading this morning I could really relate. Everything in my life today has been built upon that initial surrender. Out from there with a willingness to work our steps and stay connected all gifts have flowed. When I say gifts I just don't mean the good stuff. I'm beginning to see where the gifts lie in the difficult tasks we work through on a moment to moment basis. Being with my mother as she was dieing and biting the bullet and not giving in to the impulse to run has come back to bless me in ways I could of never imagined. Today I live with a grateful heart and am truly a "GRATEFUL ALCOHOLIC" John :42:

I have seen this alot lately:

If the only prayer you say in your whole life is "thank you," that would suffice
-- Meister Eckart

I say Thank you God with a very grateful heart for everything. :195:

I am grateful for the gifts in my life that are God's grace.

To be humble enough today to see his will for me. I am thankful that today when I start to take my will back I recognize it and am immediately willing to pray and listen.

I am grateful today that I can see all the loving caring people around me. I could not do this life sober without them. I am grateful for the opportunities I have today to give back. Giving out of love is a new found joy I have in my sober "new way of life". It is the Lords plan for me and oh what a glorious plan. So simple. I am grateful today that the Lord is keeping my eyes open to his plan.

I am grateful today to know that if it is good it is of God. If it is good then it is what I should be doing today.

I am grateful I don't feel I have to drink today.

"It is necessary for all of us to accept whatever positive
gifts we receive with a deep humility..."

It's not usually the positive gifts that I have problem receiving with gratitude and humility....it's the undesirable ones that are hard to be grateful for. You know, those "life lessons" and "growth experiences" that are necessary but uncomfortable. That's when I really need to dig deep for my gratitude to be offered the opportunity to grow in my recovery.
