Who and What?

Who was the first person to influence you toward recovery? Who first stood by you when you were trying to stay sober? What people have reached out to you at a particularly difficult time? God has sent people to all of us to meet a special need. But do we remember them now? Do we keep in touch with them, or at least thank them? Do we help them when they need us?

Thinking back, the first person would have to be the nurse at the college i was going to who handed me that list of "Twenty questions" that would indicate if i had a problem with addiction. Well according to that it not only showed i had a problem, but that i was an alcoholic/addict. I still remember her, Hope, she was a great influence for me. And she got in contact with a girl from N.A, Nancy, who 12-stepped me. Hubby stood by me by taking me to my first meeting. On occasion when i go back to that town i go see Hope, i no longer know where Nancy is and hubby stays supportive. Countless people have been there for me overtime especially in dark moments. I have had several sponsors and can remember most by name and how they help. Always very grateful to them, and friends i have made over time. So many i have lost contact, regrettably. But God continues to put new people in my life where i live now in f2f meetings and online. I see them all as family.

I don't know if there is enough time to repay what she has meant to me in my life.

I'm only now truly understanding how lucky I am to have such a wonderful woman in my life.

My mom and my hubby. Both influenced me and have stood by me every step of the way. My last sponsor. I have always said she was God sent to me. After I got her I did relapse a couple of more time but each time she always welcomed me back. She had what I wanted and gave me what I needed. I continue to strive each day for progress and continue to try to pass it on.
