DO NOT WORRY Thursday - December 6, 2007

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” – Matthew 6:25

King Charles II was crowned King of England in 1660. Edward Stillingfleet, the bishop of Worcester, was a popular preacher and often preached in the king’s court. Once Charles asked Stillingfleet why he always read his sermon notes when he was in the king’s court, but at other times, Stillingfleet would preach extemporaneously without notes.
The gifted preacher replied frankly that he was in awe of the king, and he worried that he would lose his place while preaching before the king.
The king nodded, understanding Stillingfleet’s feelings.
Emboldened by the king's favorable response, the bishop asked whether he might ask a question of his own:
“Why”, he asked, “did Charles always read his speeches in the House of Commons? Surely the king was not humbled by his parliamentary audience?”
“I have asked them so often," Charles good-naturedly replied, "and for so much money, that I am ashamed to look them in the face!"

No matter what the situation, do not worry. Take all of your worries and cares to the Lord. Today in prayer, give Christ your worries and anxieties and enter into His rest.

“Stop thinking about your difficulties, whatever they are, and start thinking about God instead.” – Emmett Fox

God’s Word: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – Matthew 6:34
