POWER OF PRAYER Friday - December 7, 2007
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Matthew 7:6-7
During the summer of 2007, a drought plagued more than a quarter of the Southeast of the United States. Georgia was especially hard hit. It was listed as an "exceptional" drought by the National Weather Service. Some areas of the state were as much as 40 inches below normal.
Georgia's Governor Sonny Perdue ordered water restrictions banning watering of lawns and called on the President of the United States for help.
As the drought worsened, Governor Perdue sought the Lord in prayer. On November 13, he led a prayer service with 250 other Christians on the steps of the state Capitol>
The governor had his critics and his supporters. One supporter was Rocky Twyman, a Christian who had organized a similar prayer event two weeks earlier. “We need to try a different approach," he said. "We need to call on God, because what we're doing isn't working. We think that instead of all this fussing and fighting, Governor Perdue and all these others would come together and pray."
Two days later, an inch of rain fell on Georgia.
The Lord answers prayer! Today in prayer, bring before Him your needs and cares and be confident that He will answer them.
