Read 1 Peter 5:1-11, Psalm 9
Understanding of Humility
Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me?" Exodus 10:3
Pride is perhaps the number one sin problem affecting the human race. It is usually at the heart of our relational difficulties with God and with others.
Our pride makes us self-centered instead of Christ Centered. We want to live our way instead of God's way. We respond to God's teaching with rebellion and willful
disobedience. The Lust of the Flesh, whether it be sexual, material, or self-image related is always at work within us just waiting for the opportunity to take control.
Pride and the desire to exalt ourselves is as destructive in our relationships with others, as it is with our relationship with God.
Pride keeps us from admitting our mistakes and our share of the blame for disagreements and misunderstandings. Pride feeds our unforgiving spirit and fertilizes the seeds of bitterness that take root in unforgiveness. Pride makes us want God and others to submit to us and let us be in control.
Nothing grieves the Spirit of God more than the grace quenching unbridled pride of the children of God that fuels willful disobedience and rebellion within us.
Out Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, gives us the antidote for pride. He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:8)
Father, by the power of your Spirit, help me to deal with my sinful pride and disobedience that I might grow into the fullness of Christ and abundance of your joy. In Jesus' name, Amen
"He does not forget the cry of the humble. Psalm 9:12b
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 1 Peter 5
