Quick Fixes
We long for fast and easy solutions to our problems and weaknesses, and sometimes we feel responsible when solutions escape us. But our longings for immediate and complete freedom from weaknesses are futile. As long as we live, we will be plagued with the particular imperfections that are a part of our own unique personalities and backgrounds. Sometimes, in spite of our best intentions, we will fail. This is simply the truth of life that we must accept with patience and peace of heart, with growing trust in God's love.
What we need to ask ourselves is not merely how successful we are in overcoming imperfections, but also how successful we are in accepting in ourselves what we cannot completely change. We need to ask how much we foolishly rely on ourselves instead of relying on the power of God. We need to ask why we become so upset with ourselves in our failures instead of humbly asking God's pardon and joyfully continuing with our lives.
There are no quick fixes for weaknesses and imperfections. The wise person simply does the best he can, and waits patiently for the day when God will set him free. And in the meantime, he knows that he is completely and absolutely loved.
Lord, it's my pride that causes me to have unreal expectations of myself. You allow my imperfections so that I can learn the truth about myself and learn to trust in you. Teach me to focus my attention more on your accepting love and less on myself.
