Keep It Simple

There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.
---Edith Wharton
Our Higher Power is the candle. And our hearts, like a mirror, reflect a warm, loving glow.
But when we used alcohol and other drugs, we tired to be the candle. We wanted to have control. Many of us acted like this to hide how out of control we felt. We never thought we could be happy by admitting we were out of control.
In recovery, we accept that it’s okay to be the mirror. We accept that our Higher Power is the candle that guides us. We want to be the mirror that reflects how much our Higher Power loves us.
Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, thank-you for the light and warmth You give me.
Action for the Day: Tonight, I’ll light a candle and place it in front of a mirror. I’ll study how they work together to light the room.

The topic of "Keeping it Simple" reminds me of a few things.

One night at a meeting a very beloved young girl was at the podium telling her story. Part of which was that she has a sleeping disorder. She basically said, "I used to go nuts over not being able to sleep at night but now I don't. When I can't sleep... I just stay awake".

Another thing I think of is something I saw at a live Andy Williams Christmas show recently. It was a varaiety show on stage just as he used to have on his 1960's television show, including the magicians. The man and woman magician danced around on stage, circling while the man would quickly lower a drape over himself and his female counter part as they danced. During the 1 or 2 seconds under the drape their clothing costumes would completely change not only in color but in the style as well. They did it over and over and it amazed the audiance.

After Andy Williams came back on stage he said, "I have been watching those 2 do that performance every day for 10 years and I am still amazed. But after 10 years I think I have it figured out... it's a TRICK!"

Funny as it was, it was an example to me of how some things can be interpreted as simple in a complicated World.

Have a nice day all
