A Wonderful Preposition
by Suzanne Benner
In grammar we learn that a preposition is a word that shows how a noun or a pronoun is related to another word in the sentence. By, beside, in, on, under, through, except, with, until, are all prepositions.
Although at first glance prepositions may seem insignificant, they are crucial for our understanding. There is quite a difference between “The man put his hand on the wall.” and “The man put his hand through the wall.”
Thus it is wonderful to realize the depth of meaning God gave us when He revealed Himself as “Immanuel”.
Matthew quotes what was foretold by the prophet Isaiah. “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him “Immanuel” – which means, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)
Immanuel means God with us.
One little word has transformed our lives.
God is with us, among us, in our midst.
No longer is God far away, accessible only to priests and prophets. With the birth of Jesus, God came down and made Himself available to every man, woman and child.
He is not far off; God is with us.
We are not alone; God is with us.
God is not only Creator, Everlasting Father, and Mighty God; He is also Immanuel.
~Thank you for sending Jesus so that we could understand You are with us and that each one of us has personal access to You.
