Hope for the Prisoner
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. (2Cor 10:3)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An idea attacks believers when we are struggling with habitual sin... "You have tried with all sincerity, and you have failed and failed again... it is hopeless."
Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin." (John 8:34) And the chains of sin are very real. For all of our determination, at some point we just give in, chained.
But the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. (2Cor 10:4-5)
Jesus Christ destroys the power of sin. The kingdom of darkness is frustrated when you bring the temptation to the throne of grace. (see Heb 4:16) It is God's power, no need for us to feel strong. When I am weak, then I am strong. Let's rely on His power, and after a time of endurance, the temptation will flee. Let's pray.
Lord Jesus, thank You for overcoming all sin. Thank You for teaching me to come before You with all my struggles and sin. Thank You for giving me patience to endure, and for Your power that is here by Your promises. When You set me free, I am free. Lead me in Your way, to walk with You. Amen
Today's very great and precious promise
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, Who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. (1Pet 5:10)
We have God's Word on it.
