Tizzybear:
Letting go... This is something I continue to struggle with. I try to let things go but I have always been a fix it type person. I always think that I can reslove an issue. I am learning that this is not the case at all and most things are meant to be left in the hands of your HP (God for me) to handle.
I had something that was really bothering me recently and I was having a really hard time letting it go. I realized that I could not fix it and all I could do was pray about it and leave it to God to do with as he felt was right. I spoke to my sponsor and she as well told me to let it go and give it to God. I was also told about a thing called a prayer box by a dear friend and I thought this was a wonderful idea. You right it down and put it in the box and give it to God. I thought the nice thing about this box was that I could take it back out when ever I felt the need to. This (mentaly) made it easier for me to let it go. I haven't felt the need to take it back, I think it is where it is suppose to be, in Gods hands. I feel so much more at ease now with my decision and I pray that I will be able to continue to remember to let things go, that I am not suppose try to control everything and that by doing so I am only hurting myself and my recovery.
How do you handle "letting go" and what helps you to do it?
hug

There was no leg work I could do like I can when I am working the steps. No amount of worrying about it was going to change the situation. Making that decision has led me back to the serenity and peace of mind I had before this happened to me. angel
I handle it with prayer, asking for knowledge of my HP's will. angel What helps me do that is the total belief in my HP, that He has a plan for me. As has been said so many times, He is in the driver's seat and I am merely a passenger on this trip. Sure makes enjoying the journey much easier.
Hope this helps you. hug

The prayer box, I have known as the God Jar which has a powerful effect on letting go. I think our minds tend to connect with the idea that when we physically let go of something we are also emotionally and mentally letting go of it. When we pray for something we are letting god take over and the moment that we do that the better the situation will be.

I physically and mentally got rid of it. I have not had an issue with it since. Sometimes the solution to any problem is to get out of myself. If i can turn my thoughts to helping someone else, i feel better about my situation. Recently i had a legal issue to deal with, i obssessed on it, nervous about it, knowing i could not control the outcome. I finally let go of it to God and turned my thoughts elsewhere, to help a friend out. I felt better and more relaxed and i know that is what God wants for me. angel

Hey Tizzi! Yes I have trouble with that too sometimes. I'm a fix it myself kind of person too. That is when I remind myself of Step 1. I am powerless over people, places and things. Only God can show me the way and sometimes he does it through others, books, this wonderful site...etc. I realize today that I cannot accomplish anything unless I ask my HP (God) for guidance and wisdom on ways of doing thing. For me anyway, this has been a struggle as well. One day at a time, and by staying clean and sober, I will get better at it, and so are you!
Keep coming back Tizzi!

Good Morning Tizzy, We call it a God Box in the southwest and it works wonders. After Barbara passed away I was cleaning out her closet and found her God Box and wanting to be closer to her I read the things she had put in there and I was so amazed at how she viewed her problems. I would of never went inside while she was alive but with her gone the need to connect with her is so great that I couldn't help myself but to read her inner most throughts. It actually was a very moving experience. I feel a deeper connection with her. hug

God box, that is an amazing concept, I am going to try that out.!!!
Also for the creative types out there, here is something that seems to be working for me right now: i often create little "offerings" to God about all the stuff i am worried about and leaving it for him/her to see. i like to think that he/she understands what i am trying to get at. one way that i do this is even by rearranging the furniture to reflect my struggle, or by doing flower arrangements, collages, etc. goofy
I like the God box 2, takes less time!!!

I also have a God Box BUT it is solid wood so once I put something in, I can't get it out ... so ... I don't use it!! duh Wink
Although I regularly ask God for direction and help in whatever is the current issue .. I'm not too good about NOT going ahead and doing it my way ... But there are also those wonderful "AH HA" moments -- when I least expect it and in a manner that I least expect, I do get an answer from God.
Something that brought me so much healing was to buy a balloon, visually put my will, concerns, worries, etc. inside, go to a special place for me, talk to God and release the balloon. Another version of that would be to fasten notes to the balloon ribbon/string and let it go.
I've been sober for many many 24 hours and I continue to struggle with letting go ...

Yep it is really that simple isn't it, but for some ungodly reason I cannot adopt this approach with somethings. Like someone else who already has mentioned I have legal issues too and there are times when my thinking can just roll over and over with it. The moment I let go then god can do what he needs to do, and often better than my plans. Then of course I do the great projection into possible outcomes. My head is really my worst enemy and sometimes I just wish I could take it off my shoulders and leave it at the door. Like the lighter I would love to just drop my head onto the floor and walk off.
