right now. Wherever you are. Whatever you are doing. What is it that you could have never done when you were out?

I am sitting at my desk, working. Since about 6:30. A year ago I would have probably still been home trying to stop the shakes. My eyes are clear, my mind is clear. I am well rested. I have not simply been passing out and waking up during the night for over a year now.

This....is....a....miracle...and....amazing.

anyone?

Hi Blueeyes
I could have never been of service to others - I could barely drag myself out of bed. Today, I am thankful for the places my HP has guided me. angel Good thought provoking question - thanks.

Blueeyes,
Six months ago today I was in a blackout. This had gone on for a week Straight. I thought I had called in sick at work for two days only to find I'd been missing in action for a week.
Tommorrow will be six months since I put down the drink and went to a meeting and asked for help.
Today I have God in my life, love, hope, and no desire to drink.
Six months ago I couldn't do anything. today every 24 hours has something and someone special in it. Very Happy
Thanks
Bry

HI. When I was drinking I would never felt at home with the person I am today. I would never have been able to say "I like me" that is a precious gift I have gained in sobriety.

My relationship with God is truly amazing to me. Thank God for the fellowship that taught me what it means to have a spiritual relationship with God.
Caring about others is also quite amazing, because i was all about me and my own selfish, self-centered desires.

I never could have seen that life was good. The ability to be honest and know the difference between honesty and dishonesty was shocking to me. Doing honest things doesn't really make you a honest person. I wasn't very honest with myself, not to mention other around me. I too, like what I see in the mirror everyday. Most importantly, I can interact with society not overwhelmed with my lies, decietfulness, and anger. The clouds have been lifted!!!!! bow

Good morning all. Over 2 years ago it would have taken me over 2 hours to get ready to go somewhere. I never liked what I saw, I was either too fat, to thin, too much make up, not enough, I looked old and tired, the clothes weren't right....anyway you get the idea. Today, as most of us, I can say that I love what I see loooking back and I tell her that too everytime I see her. Plus I can get ready likidy split and no matter what I am me....a miracle!

Thanks for this post! ok cheer

Good Morning, great topic. First of all I'm not in jail anymore and haven't been even asked for ID in over 7yrs. Went back to school at 50 and actually completed my courses on the honor roll. Stayed in one place long enough to get my phone listed in the phone book. Have a very good relationship with my mother (went 12 yrs. without speaking). Have a group of friends who I can really count on (who want nothing from me).
The list goes on and on and they are all gifts of recovery. hug angel hug

I can drive anywhere anytime and not be worried about gettting pulled over for DWI.

I can answer the phone or the door without worrying about how well i'm succeeding at pretending to be sober.

I can go to a restaurant and not even notice whether or not they serve liquor.

I can watch a movie or read a book and remember it all the next day.

Thanks for the topic!

Watching a movie is a good one too - it is amazing how many movies I have seen while drinking that I couldn't remember!

Not having to worry about having enough money to protect the supply is one too!

I am happy to be alive thought I'd never live to see my children grow up let alone see a grandchild.
I can hold my head up not walk on the other side of the street in case that someone I just saw wants a conversation and I'm too out of it.
Also that I am standing, walking and living and out of bed.

What I think is amazing is that I am an alcoholic who survived 11 years of drinking without killing myself. What is amazing is that I am an alcoholic that hasn't had a drink today, that I thought was impossible. Then there is the fact that when I came into aa I had not completed my high school education and today I have a background in arts. law and business. But the real miracle for me is that my thinking has changed enough to be less selfish and that I am capable today of helping and considering another human being.

I am amazed that what you say counts almost more than what I might think. It is that simple premis of putting anyone or anything in front of what my own personal wants and needs are that amazes me. Of course, I did say "almost"....but it's progress and not perfection. I am amazed that there is roof over my head instead of the bridge....the words "if you only knew" pass through my cluttered mind, then I realize....you probably do know if you are alcoholic or an addict.
