Law of Christ
"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you." (Mat 7:1-2)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anytime I pass judgement on another person I reject the mercy of God for myself. By his mercy, all sin has been judged, and the sentence of death was given to Jesus. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. (1John 2:2)
Someone will say, "But if a person does not believe in Christ, they are condemned already, because they have rejected God's mercy." (see John 3:18) Well said. By the same token, if I do not accept the mercy of God for the sins of all people everywhere, I am rejecting his mercy for myself, and I have fallen from grace. For with the judgement I pronounce, I will be judged.
Forgive, and you will be forgiven. (see Luk 6:37) This is the law of Christ. With the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. (Mat 5:7) His mercy with His power to deny ourselves and pick up our cross... His power to patiently endure and forgive other people's sin is given to us in Christ. All the while we learn to know God better and better. (see Col 1:10) Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Gal 6:2) Let's pray.
Lord Jesus, You took the burden of all sins upon yourself, paying the penalty for all people and so You are my Savior. Help me to walk in grace and to forgive others. Only by your mercy finding freedom from my own sin, and the joy of your presence, even in suffering do I walk in your grace. Amen.
Today's very great and precious promise
Forgive, and you will be forgiven. (see Luk 6:37)
We have God's Word on it.
