For those of you that do not know, Greg Pierce wrote chapter 6 ( The Twelve Traditions of Narcotics Anonymous ). It was included in the writing of the Basic Text in Nov 1981 in Memphis. How it got to the book was that Greg could not make the nine day conference as he lived in Oregon at the time. Bo S found a lady in the fellowship that typed very fast. Greg called Bo and Bo held the phone to the lady's ear for five hours till Greg could finish reading it to the lady as she typed.
It went out to the fellowship in what we call the appoval form to every group that could be found (600 Groups). The fellowship thought chapter 6 so good that nothing has been added to the chapter. Crucial and essential things have been removed. You can read the original 4th and 9 Tradition here: http://nahelp.org and go to highlighted *basic text* <-- that will be the Baby Blue Basic Text.
With the history of Greg is why i put it out here to let you know now that Greg always started a tradition pitch with Tradition 12 as we need to start a house by forming a foundation . i hope none of you start building a house with the dormers. Below is what I wrote and would like some review and input from anyone of you that wishes to contribute. if you do reply, please palce your input in a new bulletin so that everyone here can see everyone's input. Our program is all inclusive and do not want to leave anyone out.
What is anonymity really? True anonymity is of not just being of no name, but of no name, face, gender, persuasion and other identifying marks. True anonymity is breaking our ego and perceptions all the way down to pure spiritual essence. Once we have nothing but our own essence, we can walk in spirit. In pure spirit we can practice anonymity to the point that no matter what comes to us, we can look at only the essence, a personality will no longer be an issue. Then and only then can we allow ourselves to look at EVERYONE the same.
Now in anonymity we all have voice and can have and enjoy COMPLETE creative freedom. When we have freedom to this degree, we have more G.O.D. and less self. The less self we have the more we can come together and work for the common good of all. That will be what is embodied in the first tradition.
Then we can again reapply tradition 12 and move on to being the best trusted servant for the good of our primary purpose. When all are working in anonymity, we come together seeking what is best for us in true group conscience. When our group comes before anything else, we are free to accept anyone with a desire to be here with us.
Finding this kind of freedom for the group opens the way for our autonomy. Our autonomy is essential to our creative freedom. We stand on our own and do whatever we can to find this freedom as long as our stance is not disrupting to others.
When we continue putting tradition 12 as our individual foundation, we are free to carry a message to the ones suffering from our thinking disease. By placing G.O.D. at the forefront of our program, we are free to help others by placing ourselves as part of the whole and not outstanding in any way. Then the group is a part of the solution creating desire within and autonomy to its fullest strength.
As anonymity grows in us as individual members we will not allow anyone or anything to divert us from our primary purpose by keeping 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 always in vigilant awareness.
If we are truly anonymous, we will not have need to greed (money, property, prestige). Greed is essentially what brings down our house by diverting us into thinking that we have some thing at stake other than spiritual growth and helping each other to find the freedom we have found.
By keeping our anonymity first, we will always want to support ourselves so that we may better carry a message of hope and the promise of freedom from active addiction. We will also be involved with a program of participation and inclusion, making certain that we will support each other in all our affairs. Our anonymity is also seen when we are fully self-supporting.
Anonymity brings us all together and we are all who we are and only who we are. We do not use our talents as productive human beings in our rooms. When we are in a meeting, we must always be anonymous as we are no more and no less than anyone else. We can jade our true self if we choose to see ourselves as more than Spirits. As for not being organized, if we organize, we may feel the right to govern, our second tradition speaks of non governing amoung ourselves. Therefore, we are not organized due to this fact of ruling or dictating.
Groups living in anonymity create services fully responsible to whomever chooses to utilize these services. We organize to serve us the best way we can to further the primary purpose.
Being anonymous in all our affairs; we will not run the risk of being in the public's eyes. By not having an opinion on issues not concerning ourselves, we will stay out of the limelight of public scrutiny. When we allow outside entities to scrutinize the things we do, we are asking for outside influence in our decisions and run the risk of government integration.
footnote: I tried to get talk of program out of this and go from just an individual sight. I hope this is good for someone out there in the people i sent it to. If any of you choose to reply and input to this peice, I only ask that you *reply to all* in your offerings so that this peice will truely be ALL inclusive. Thank you all for your input.
