Planning our own speech during a discussion meeting makes it hard to listen. Recovery requires silence and attention.
Sometime, somewhere, something we've heard in a meeting may come to mind just when we need it. But if we sit at meetings engrossed in our own thoughts, we can't learn the suggestions we may need to help us in times of danger.
Do I pay close attention at meetings?
Higher Power, help me to open my ears and close my mouth just a little more today.
Day by Day

I really would like to experience a day where I don't have to latter think to myself....."Self, did you hurt someone with your careless words today?" Very frequently I do say things that would be better off just keeping to myself. This is one aspect of life that needs alot of help! mad

Whenever I go to meetings I always bear in mind this:- that I am either there to hear a message from god or to bring a message from god.
I never plan what I am going to say from the floor of a meeting as for me meetings are about the language of the heart and that is where I relate so well to another alcoholic. The drinking stories may be similar or quite different as some alcoholics go further than others but it is the emotions that I can identify with. I remember in the early days of my recovery some older sober members use to say to those in early recovery and those who had a short attention span to listen intently and to try and remember the last sentence of the person sharing. This was a good skill to get the concerntration redirected and focused on what was happening in the rooms.
I don't know what or why it happens but everytime one alcoholic shares with another alcoholic the true nature of his malady, somehow a miracle seems to take place.
