PRAYING FOR OTHERS Friday - February 1, 2008
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you” – Colossians 1:3
In late 2003, Baseball coach Jim Yanko of Delta College in Stockton, California was diagnosed with a severe, aggressive brain cancer. He went in for surgery and doctors were able to remove a cancerous tumor.
In 2005, Delta college chaplain Matthew Gonzales said he felt God leading him to pray for Coach Yanko. It turned out a second brain tumor had appeared and Yanko was facing a second surgery.
The day after Gonzales had prayed for the coach, Yanko went to the doctor's office to prepare for surgery but the tumor was gone.
Emboldened by Coach Yanko’s testimony, other Christian students at Delta College are now praying for those in their community and seeing other miraculous answers to prayer.
"Our heart is that the more we see this happen," Gonzales said, "the more Jesus is lifted up. He just wants us to step out in out in His authority."
One of the best gifts you can give others and yourself is praying for the needs of others. Today in prayer, look to the Lord with expectancy and pray for some of the needs of your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.
“I have benefited by my praying for others; for by making an errand to God for them, I have gotten something for myself.” – Samuel Rutherford
God’s Word: “God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.” – Romans 1:9-10
