Alot of the things that I heard so much about in my early
recovery was the importance of building a recovery network
and using it.It was'nt that tuff,but it was one of the first
responsibilities my sponsor gave me.
I had to call my sponsor,as well as one other sponsee
brother that had at least one year of clean time than I did.
Then I had to build relationships with other addicts in my
area that had a few years clean.So gradualy over my first
year clean,I was able to drop alot of my defects(long before I
knew they were defects) and break out of that isolasation
zone in my head.
I at the time thought that my sponsor was trying to send me
off to work with others because he was lazy.What I have found
is that he taught me to knock down walls,and comunicate openly
with folks that I used to gossip about.Hell,I was a longhaired rebel,
and he had me calling an older N.A. member up with bad eyes daily
and reading the Just For Today meditations to him.I had two
guys on my daily call list that were of another racial background.
So I was able to adress so many issues that first year
of recovery.
I was shown how to keep it simple.I learned about slogans,and
was shown how to practis them.I called five guys a day with
at least two years more clean time than I had.They showed
me that newcomers that hung with newcomers normaly did'nt
normaly stay clean to long.
