God is my Refuge

Are you going through a storm right now? What would you like specific prayer for?
We were caught in a prairie blizzard miles from our destination. Drifting snow, like a thick veil, obscured the road. Twice our car veered into a field and got stuck in a snowbank. Each time the men worked hard to get us unstuck and back on the road again. It was getting dark and bitterly cold. I shivered in my seat. Would we make it to our destination before we all froze to death?
Finally, we saw lights– off in the distance– coming closer with every covered mile. And then smiling people ushered us inside a warm, well-lit, room. They set plates, heaped with steaming food, before us. Later as I listened to the howling wind and the moaning house, I snuggled in deeper under my warm blankets. Nothing to fear now. I was safe.
All of us know firsthand about the storms in life. Relationship problems. Financial setbacks. Betrayals of trust. Health crises. The awful consequences of bad choices.
As Christians we have a place to run to for shelter. The Bible says: "He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge." Psalm 144:2
God desires that our lives and relationships survive the storms because of a strength that fills us from within. When we run to him and let Jesus live his strong life in us, we have the power, not only to survive, but to triumph. How do we let him live his life in us? By trusting him and obeying what he tells us in His Word.
Prayer: Father, I come running to you now. I see you welcoming me with open arms. You pull me inside your warm presence. As I sit here quietly, you are restoring my soul. As I slowly repeat the words: The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped, I can feel your strength infuse me again. I will give thanks to you all day long.
