The Gift

What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? (Luke 11:11-12)

We need to be filled with His Spirit. It's important to bring our needs and concerns to our Lord. There is nothing too small for His attention- we can do all things through Christ. Whether we want a car that works, quiet children, help at work, or help with our attitude, He is here to listen and to guide.

Most of all we need to be filled with His Spirit. We prepare our heart by speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and being subject to one another in the fear of Christ. (Eph 5:19-21)

We prepare our heart, but the filling of His Spirit is His gift to us. It is the gift from the One who waits to be gracious to you and me. Jesus said, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" (Luke 11:13) Let's ask to be filled with Him today.

Heavenly Father, every good and perfect gift comes from You. We receive nothing good unless You give it to us. How much more the gift of Your presence filling our hearts?

Would You fill me with Your Spirit? Help me today to prepare my heart expecting and waiting for the joy of Your presence. For all I ask, this I need most of all- to be filled with You. Amen.

Today's very great and precious promise

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" (Luke 11:13)

We have God's Word on it.
