Heroic Love
Jesus frequently associated with sinners, tax collectors, and others who were not considered to be very lovable. In Jesus, God showed us what divine love was really like.
Many times in the gospel, we are asked to love those who are seemingly unlovable to us, and to forgive those who have hurt us. If we refuse these experiences, we cannot know what God is like.
Every day, we are in need of forgiveness, and even when we fail to admit our need, God's love never stops penetrating us. As God is toward us, so we are asked to be toward others. When we do what God does, loving as he loves, then we become like him, and we come to experience his peace.
I'm thinking of the people whom I find hard to love and to forgive. I can never love them, Lord unless I realize that you make it possible. God, I want to love as you love. Otherwise, I will never be one with you.
