TITLE: The Ant Farm
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 139:1-12
AUDIO: listen here
THE STORY FOR TODAY:
Sally and her little brother Joey watched ants scurry up and down the tiny tunnels in her ant farm. "Look!" said Joey, pointing to one of the ants. "What is that one carrying?" After a moment, he added, "And why is that one digging a new tunnel? Oh! Is that one cleaning up? Did God make ants, too?"
"Such a lot of questions," teased Sally. "Yes, God made ants, too."
"Are these ants just like the ones outside?" asked Joey.
"Well . . . I guess so. I'd say they're cousins anyway," replied Sally with a grin. She stood. "I have to go study," she added, "but you can watch my ants."
Sally was in her room only a little while when she heard Joey run outside. Minutes later, she heard the screen door slam and Joey scurried by on his way to his room. When she went to check on him, he was lying on the bed with his head under the pillow. It was the way Joey had tried to hide when he was smaller, and occasionally, he still did this. "Joey, I see you," said Sally. "What happened? Why are you hiding in your bed?"
Slowly, Joey pulled his head from under the pillow. "I wanted to show your ants to their cousins outside, but I dropped the ant farm," he confessed. "It broke, and some of the ants ran away." Tears ran down the little boy's cheeks. "I didn't want you to see," he said.
"Oh, Joey!" cried Sally. She sighed. "Well, you might have hidden it from me, but you know that God sees all you do. You can't hide from Him," scolded Sally. "Just like you could see the ants and everything they did in the ant farm, God always sees you and everything you do. In fact, He sees you better than you saw the ants."
"I'm really sorry," Joey said anxiously. "Really, I am."
"I know, and I forgive you," replied Sally. "I don't like what happened to the ants, but I hope you'll remember that God always sees you-and that you can't ever run away from Him!"
"I'll remember," promised Joey. "Will He forgive me, too?"
"He will if you're really sorry and ask Him to," said Sally. "Now . . . let's go and pick up what's left of the ant farm."
MEMORY VERSE:
You (God) are acquainted with all my ways. Psalm 139:3
HOW ABOUT YOU?
When you've done something wrong, do you try to hide it? Maybe that would work with people, but never with God. Psalm 139 says He knows all about you-even what you're thinking. It points out that there is no place where you can hide from Him. He sees when you do the right things and also when you do something wrong. Don't try to hide. Confess your sin and turn from it. Live each day with the knowledge that God sees you and loves you. Live to please Him in all you do.
