Know You
I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight. (Exo 33:13)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems an easy thing for me to receive insight from scripture then to turn around and salt it into a few words. Yet I'm sadly aware of an arrogance in me that would take satisfaction in thinking that other people would look up to me.
It's sin in me. Let's look up to Jesus. (Besides, if you knew me the pedestal would tarnish and crumble... as it should) Did you ever quote good doctrine and yet feel a certain emptiness and lack of life in what you were saying? It's like that with me too.
Christian, we know that God waits to be gracious to us. (see Isa 30:18) And good biblical teaching is surely by His good favor. But that's not the end and neither is it the purpose of His teaching. He is our hope and joy, and so let's pray and ask to know His ways so that we can know Him.
And knowing Him we find more favor. Not as if He was paying us for what we earned. Rather that His favor is with Him for every soul, and the soul that seeks Him finds more of Him.
A humble man encouraged me with a few simple and kind words with a smile. Jesus was written all over that gentle heart. Let's pray.
Lord You are faithful and closer than a brother. Help me to rest in Your promise, and set my heart to seek You. By Your grace I will seek You and abide in You. Thank You for being here already... Eternal life is knowing You. Amen
Today's very great and precious promise
I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. (from Heb 8:10-11)
We have God's Word on it.
