Changing Channels
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. (Romans 8:7)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we see trash on TV hopefully we turn it off or change the channel. Just like we have a choice over what we watch on television, when ugly thoughts of the flesh appear on the screen of our minds we can change channel, and set our minds on Jesus.
In our struggle against sin, the thought will come to discourage: "You still have these wicked thoughts." That may be. But just because birds fly through does not mean that we have to let them build nests.
We take every thought captive to obey Christ. (from 2 Cor. 10:5) He knows the thoughts, and He is with you Christian to help. Choose to humbly bring the thoughts to Him asking for help to set your focus on Him.
After a time of endurance the Lord with change the channel as you rejoice in His faithfulness. Praise Him for it- even in the midst of the fight. In this way, though evil thoughts fly into our tree, they cannot build nests.
To the idea that this is a way of mind control... It is a joy to know the One to Whom we surrender control- cleansing by His Word and bringing freedom to our mind... rejoice in the Lord! Let's pray.
Lord Jesus, thank You for living in me and my born again family of friends. Help us to look to You when unholy thoughts come to mind. Thank You for Your constant care and for Your continuing forgiveness.
Help each of us to bring thoughts before You and to trust You- bringing us to rest in You. You will continue to fight for us, and You will finish what You have started. Even now, may we look to You and abide in You as You bring us Your word. Amen.
Today's very great and precious promise
To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. (Rom 8:6)
We have God's Word on it.
