When I first moved to this area and went to my first AA meeting I thought to my self, self this is never going to work, the meeting are for and few in between and there are no women, how am I going to relate to these old farmers, but I kept coming back every week, and I would catch rides to speaker meetings and AA events, before I knew it I was surrounded by new friends. I've always had a problem with men, I thought they were all jerks, to put it nicely, and was out for only one thing, turns out I was wrong ~~ very wrong, it's been a little over a year now and we have some new addictions to our little group ~~ yes more women ~~ and oddly enough the men share in the group more so then the females. I'm sharing this, because recently a young lady came to our meeting on a night were the rest of us lady's had a special meeting, anyway this girl didn't come back her mother had called one of our members to let us know she was in the hospital due to alcohol and would we go talk to her before she came home. My hopes are that she let us in and she will reconsider joining our group even though it's made up of mostly men.

Good Morning, and it is a beauty on the North Shore of Massachusetts! I can only add to your comments by saying I too attend meetings that are sometimes male dominant, and to your point not all men are jerks any more than all women. We in AA share a common problem, that does not discriminate in any manner. Our pupose is to help another alcoholic or addict to remain or gain sobriety. I believe that a visit from one member, or a brief note of support letting her know that when she is ready to give it another try, she is welcome anytime in any and all conditions, for it is stated it is desire to get sober is all that is required for membership, hopefully this young woman will keep coming! Best of luck, and enjoy today, or this moment...Meetings bring me peace of mind, I may not always want to go on a given day, but I'm sure glad I did on the trip home!!!!!

Hello paddie
Welcome to CRF, its nice to meet you and that im so glad you decided to keep on going even if at first its not quite what we expect. When we have an ernest desire to stay sober it seems our higher power has it all worked out and it ends up being the best decision us addicts ever make.
We all want to wish you much love and many blessings on your journey of recovery and discovery
