Hello. I'm 51 years old and I have been sober for 142 days. I go to AA five times a week and just love my home group. What a great program to be in. My life has done a 180 degree turn. I'm glad to be here and glad to be sober.
Today the sun is shining and should be about 70 degrees. Perfect!
I'm sure glad that I don't have to worry about drinking today.

Hey Hiker 51, I agree with you, I have been on this, what I call, "my journey to sobriety" for 9 mos.. I have had my slips but none recently. It was finding a small home discussion group that got me on the road in a more determined way. Since 2000 I tried to stop several times, I went to Speaker Meatings, the 90 day silence meetings, and thought AA was not for me. In July of last year I knew alcohol was winning out and wanted me dead, I entered a recovery program and approached AA in a new manner. I found a small group in my area, (have to be honest, I went to this particular meetimg because it started at 7 and I could get home in time to watch the RedSox.)
There were 5 others at that meeting on that Summer Tuesday night, and they welcomed me, encouraged me to participate, listened, gave me numbers, and that is now the group I call Home, and I am the Dunkin Donut Coffee Maker, we have a group of about 12+ people. Today, I now appreciate the Speaker Meetings and respect the 90 day listening meetings. Staying sober is sometimes a breeze and I can't imagine picking up a drink...but other times the sickness we all share has reared its ugly head, I am learning to recognize the feelings prior to the desire to pick up. It is truly that first drink that gets us drunk, because no matter how we try and fool ourselves we will NOT just have one. Best of Luck! :12:

Hurls,
I feel great today. I keep it Simple! I read the Big Book, read forums and most of all.... I go to meetings about 5 times a week. I always have a lot to say, but just showing up and listening at meetings is great. That 5 days a week is good for my body and soul. Then I try to practice what a learn.
I believe that the 5 hours of meetings in one week sure beats what I did before. It pays excellent dividends.
