"Grin and Bear It!"

“... but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” — Romans 5:3 NIV

When you are suffering, it isn't easy to think about today's scripture verse, for you are hurting too much. It's only later that you begin to see the good that came out of your crisis. Fred Smith told of a man he admired because of the man’s determination and tenacity, when obstacles plagued his business. Later Fred learned that this man had suffered much when his son was a breech-born baby with cerebral palsy. The boy couldn't chew until he was eight years old. His father would chew the food and put it in his son’s mouth. But his father learned patience and determination and helped his son, and was blessed in many ways because of it.

So when life looks bleak and the problems seem overwhelming, remember that even the worst of situations can teach you something and make you stronger than ever. Ask God what you are to learn from it and say to yourself "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13)

If you grin and bear it, you will find new strength to meet the challenge. You will think with new clarity, for the Lord will be guiding your mind. You will have all the help you need, if you really look to the Lord and trust him completely. Instead of panicking, you will feel at peace with any situation that you have to face.

Heavenly Father, forgive me when I panic instead of praying. I surrender to your guidance with many thanks. Amen.
