My name is Greg, and I am an alcoholic. I'm 33 years old living in Queens, NY. Today is my 12th day sober, but only my 4th out of detox. It's also my first day back at the office, so I am a little tense, nervous, and all that good stuff.
Thanks,
-Greg

:46: Greg :17: , I am very glad to have you join us here. Congratulations on 12 days sober. :29: Have you been attending meetings in your area? If not, I suggest doing so to also get face to face help/support with your recovery. Please make yourself at home here also. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and to share with us. I look forward to getting to know you better. Keep coming back.

Hi Tammy, and Thank You.
Yes, I have attended a meeting each night since I have been home, and will make a lunch time meeting today before an appointment I have at an outpatient rehab center. To be honest, I don't think I would have made it into work this morning without the meetings so far and the phone numbers I have used.
I'll get to "One Day at a Time" sometime soon...but for now, it's about 30 minutes at a time!

Welcome, Greg ... and congratulations on your clean time. I'm Frannie, an addict from Atlanta, GA. I lived in Brooklyn during the hey day of my use. Now been clean (and sometimes sober) for over 10 months.

I remember well the days of taking it in 30 minute increments at a time. Hell, sometimes I have to do that now (not regarding picking up a drink, but in not losing my temper or getting overwhelmed by fear, etc etc)!! It does get better, I promise. Just hold on, use your tools, and don't drink or use no matter what. I know that I could not have maintained my sobriety over the past 10 months without the help and support of my friends from the AA fellowship, and I am so happy for you that you also get to share in the great gifts of this program. Look forward to getting to know you.
Peace,
Frannie

Hi Greg, I am Gail a Grateful recovering addict from California. I want to welcome you to the greatest show on earth. Recovery is a whole new way of life and the best way I have found so far, and you can have it too. Congratulations on your 12 days. :29: I remember when I was new and looking at people who had "time" and said how the hell did they get 'years' of recovery? I want you to know that we all do it the same way. one day at a time. That is how I still do it at 3 and a half years....one day at a time.

Go to meetings
get a sponsor
work the steps
believe in a HP
be of service

it is a forumla that works.:1:

you hang in there OK? and Welcome:42:

light and love

Hiya Greg, :46: :94: ,

:29: Congratulations for your new found sobriety:29: Woohoo, so glad you've joined us!!!

I'm Felicity, sober since Jan this year and so grateful for that!!:1:

Have been clean of amphet. for 6 and half years.

Yes, I can agree 100% with everyone else, it does get easier and sooooo much better!!!! I've had my ups and downs during the past few months, every down nothing as bad as being in the active addiction role and every up, is even more rewarding than the last!!!!!

"One day at a time you too can do this", one of the best things I have been taught is to "stay in the here and now", leave yesterday where it is and tomorrow isn't here yet, so let's be here now and make the most of this day we are in!!!

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson....i recieved that in an email yesterday, thought I'd share it with you.

Thank you all for the welcomes and well-wishes. They certainly stayed with me throughout the day - especially when the thoughts were much needed.

I left work in plenty of time to be punctual for a lunchtime meeting, then got killed in traffic and thought I would miss it - found myself making excuses for missing it, and then excuses for how to fill the free time. I was able to work through that, and walked in half-way through the meeting, listened, shared, and felt better. That was followed by what an intake interview with a rehab therapist that was supposed to be 30 minutes and took 2-1/2 hours. That found me rushing to make my kids' baseball game, which I had to leave early for a coorination meeting for a soccer program I run.

But, I went to bed sober, and woke up sober...and today is another day, and here I am at work.

PS to Frannie - You remember that Belt Pkwy. traffic, right? My wife is from Columbus, GA. I get down there about 1-2 times a year.

:11: Good Morning Greg, and welcome to our group. My name is John and I grew up in Oceanside Long Island and worked in brooklyn for yrs. I remember the traffic on the belt pky. it was bad in the 60's and 70's. I now live in Prescott Arizona. Early recovery was very tough for me, but it was the best gift I've ever given myself. One of the things that really helped me was to have a buddy in recovery to share with on a regular basis along with a sponsor. I never throught I could ever stop drinking or druging but with the support and the AA (12step program) I have been clean and sober for 8+yrs.
If you need or want added support you can always e-mail of PM me I'm here every A.M. Hang in there brother it does get better. :42: :1:

Hi Greg, welcome. I went to lots of meetings in early sobriety too (and checked in with online sites like this one in between). It sure helped me when i felt like my head was going to unscrew itself from my body and go spinning off into space.

Glad you're here,
- Jim :D
