Defects
Sometimes I've failed to share my defects with the right people;
at other times, I've confessed their defects, rather than my own;
and at still other times, my confession of defects has been more in the nature of
loud complaints about my circumstances and my problems.
Nevertheless, I think I've usually been able to make a fairly thorough
and searching job of finding and admitting my personal defects. . .
Long ago I was lucky enough to see that I'd have to keep up my self-analysis
or else blow my top completely.

12 x 12 Quote
"The moment they read Step Two, most AA newcomers are confronted with a
dilemma, sometimes a serious one. How often have we heard them cry
out, 'Look what you people have done to us! You have convinced us that
we are alcoholics and that our lives are unmanageable. Having reduced
us to a state of absolute helplessness, you now declare that none but a
Higher Power can remove our obsession. Some of us won't believe in God,
others can't, and still others who do believe that God exists have no
faith whatever He will perform this miracle. Yes, you've got us over
the barrel, all right--but where do we go from here?'" (Twelve and
Twelve, Step Two, pg. 25)

AA 'Big Book' - Quote
Logic is great stuff. We liked it. We still like it. It is not by chance we were given the power to reason, to examine the evidence of our senses, and to draw conclusions. That is one of man's magnificent attributes. We agnostically inclined would not feel satisfied with a proposal which does not lend itself to reasonable approach and interpretation. Hence we are at pains to tell why we think our present faith is reasonable, why we think it more sane and logical to believe than not to believe, why we say our former thinking was soft and mushy when we threw up our hands in doubt and said, 'We don't know.' - Pg. 53 - We Agnostics
"Since the home has suffered more than anything else, it is well that
a man exert himself there. He is not likely to get far in any
direction if he fails to show unselfishness and love under his own
roof. We know there are difficult wives and families, but the man
who is getting over alcoholism must remember he did much to make them
so."
~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, The Family Afterward, pg. 127~
"If we were to live, we had to be free of anger. The grouch and the
brainstorm were not for us. They may be the dubious luxury of normal
men, but for alcoholics these things are poison."
~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, How It Works, pg. 66~

Misc. AA Literature - Quote
Look Beyond the Horizon
My workshop stands on a hill back of our home. Looking over the valley, I see the village community house where our local group meets. Beyond the circle of my horizon lies the whole world of A.A.
<<<>>>
The unity of A.A. is the most cherished quality our Society has. Our lives, the lives of all to come, depend squarely upon it. Without unity, the heart of A.A. would cease to beat; our world arteries would no longer carry the life-giving grace of God.

Inventory
"A business which takes no regular inventory
usually goes broke.
Taking a commercial inventory is
a fact-finding and a fact-facing process.
If the owner of the business is to be successful,
he cannot fool himself about values.
We did exactly the same thing with our lives.
We took stock honestly.
Being convinced that self,
manifested in various ways,
was what had defeated us,
we considered its common manifestations."
Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 64
Thought to Consider . . .
