Practical Warfare
Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. (James 3:13)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we're offended, we may try our best to not get angry. We try to be kind. But often we find ourselves powerless and end up doing the very thing we tried to avoid.
Or maybe we struggle against a particular sin, but find ourselves faltering and failing. I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. (Rom 7:15)
The step from peace into quarreling with someone takes only a second. And it is a quick decision that leads into sin that is never satisfied. Whether it is getting tangled in a quarrel, or our lonely sin, we fall for it by striving and not humbling ourselves to surrender and look to the Lord.
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. (1Pet 5:6-7) Christian, let me hear this along with you.
We are learning to turn and trust Jesus- He is the way, not our understanding and efforts alone. In Him we find the meekness of wisdom. This is practical warfare. Let's pray.
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your faithfulness to us. Forgive us for fighting on our own. We need You- to find true life in You and not in our own striving.
Help me when I feel self assured- remind me to trust in You, and not my strength. Help me to deny myself and surrender into Your rest where I find life and fulfillment in You. Amen.
Today's very great and precious promise
For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. (Rom 8:2)
We have God's Word on it.
