Italian Bread
4 cups all purpose bleached flour
1 pkg quick rising yeast
1 ts salt
1 TB sugar
1 cup warm water
Yellow or white Cornmeal

------------
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Add yeast, sugar and salt in water in mixing bowl. Let sit for about 15 minutes. Add flour and knead until smooth and very elastic (may add extra warm water if need be to obtain this). Form into loaf OR loaves and coat lightly with oil. Put onto cookie sheet or in bread pans sprinkled with corn meal. Let rise for about 1 hour. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, slice it up and enjoy!

**If using bread pans, I use 2 small bread pans and this recipe makes 2 loaves. If I use a cookie sheet then I make 1 large loaf.

hi there.....

Make a loaf of italian bread, but do not add the steam (that is what gives it a hard crust). When you take the bread out of the oven, either butter it well, or lay a towel overtop to capture the heat and turn the crust soft. To keep the bread soft, do not refrigerate, but store in a paper bag on the counter. Yes, a paper bag, not a plastic one.
