Hi, my name is Julie and I'm trying to come to grips with the realization that I am addicted to an addict. I've been trying to end the relationship-- we lived together for six months, but he drank for four of them and I asked him to move out. He was in and out of detox and finally ended up at an inpatient treatment center, but this was after I told him I couldn't be in relationship with him anymore. He's coming out soon and I'm so afraid that I won't be able to be strong enough. He's very charming. A person can probably walk away from an addictive substance easier than another person... I'm just so confused why after such a bitter and painful relationship I still feel so much pain in LOSING the love I thought we had. It's crazy. I feel crazy. If anyone can give me any help on this I would appreciate it.

Hi Julie,
That is a hard decision to make! I don't really have advice for you, but I hope that your heart heals and that you both find clarity as he becomes and I pray stays sober.

Hi Knittybitty1,
I want to welcome you to our family. Like Faith, I am not in a position to give you any advice. I did however search the forums and found a thread which you may find helpful. Please take a moment and read it. You will be in my prayers.
