I have taken liberties with Corinthians 1 13
Sobriety is patient and kind;
sobriety does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant or rude.
Sobriety does not insist on its own way;
Sobriety is not irritable or resentful
Sobriety does not rejoice at wrongdoing
But rejoices in the truth
Sobriety bears all things, believes all things
hopes all things. Endures all things
When I was a drunk, I spoke like a drunk
I thought like a drunk, I reasoned like a drunk
When I came to sobriety I gave up all that
As a drunk I saw as thru a glass darkly
In sobriety I see with new clarity
as a drunk I knew reality only in fragments
As a sober person I know reality as a cohesive wholeness
I belong in that totality
Now I know what it is to love and to be loved.
