Athlete's Prayer
God, let me play well but fairly.
Help me to learn something that matters
once the game is over.
Let competition make me strong but never hostile.
Always let me help my opponent up.
Never catch me rejoicing in the adversity of others.
If I know victory, allow me to be happy; if I am denied, keep me from envy.
Remind me that sports are just games.
If through athletics I set an example,
let it be a good one.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your gift of the Holy Spirit so that we have the power to overcome anger, wrath, envy and jealousy. Lord, give us the grace not to yield to these things when we are tempted. May we exhibit Your love in situations that the devil designs to be used against us, in order to provoke us to anger. Help me not to react in an ungodly way in those kinds of circumstances. May I rejoice in the promotion of others and not yield to a spirit of envy or jealousy. I ask this is the name of Jesus. Amen.

Dear Lord, how do we see ourselves -- as Your lost sheep needing Your guidance, or as an independent generation who see no need to consider Your plans for us? ... Is it arrogance, or lack of wisdom, that energizes those who think they have "outgrown" You? Is their philosophy driving them to la "point of no return?" ... You warned us in Your Word that there would come a time when many people would be deceived, even some of Your followers.* ... Open our eyes to see that along with our right to be both, we also have a responsibility to be informed and conscientious. ... In the days ahead, help us to seek the guidance of Your Holy Spirit in order to discover Your will and direction for us, lest we fail You!
In Jesus' holy name we pray.
Amen.

My New Nature Made Alive
Ephesians 4:17-21
Dear Father, righteous and holy God,
Help me never to be tempted to live as worldly people live: futile in their thinking - darkened in their understanding - alienated from you because of the ignorance within them - hard-hearted and calloused -given over to licentiousness - greedy to practice every kind of uncleanness.
I did not learn of a Christ like this! I learned of a righteous and holy Christ.
Help me ever to aspire to live as your holy people live: clear and decisive in thought - illumined in their understanding - reconciled to you by knowing your Son - tender-hearted and supple - self-controlled - hungering and thirsting for righteousness.
Help me to follow him just as I was taught in him - as the truth is in Jesus.
In his precious name I pray. Amen.
