To Know Christ

Philippians 3:10-14

Father,

I want to do this because I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection, and be allowed even to share in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

Dear Father, I know that I have not made this my own yet, but one thing let me do: Let me forget what lies behind and strain forward to what lies ahead. Help me to keep pressing forward toward the goal so that I may win the prize according to your will in Christ Jesus, my Lord.

In his name of our Lord Jesus I ask these things and pray that you will grant us a spirit of perseverance unto eternal life. Amen.

To Be Humble in Spirit

Father, I'm praying for (name one or more) and others in my circle of family or friends to know the importance of humbling themselves...

May they choose to humble themselves before You and before Christ, for we know You detest the proud of heart. You live in a high and holy place and with those who are contrite and humble. (Daniel 10:12; James 4:10; Proverbs 16:5a; Isaiah 57:15)

May they desire to be like Christ, gentle and humble in heart, living in harmony with one another, compassionate and sympathetic, loving each other—not trying to pay back hurts or insults but instead responding with blessings. May they be willing to submit to You and each other out of reverence for Christ. (Matthew 11:29b; 1 Peter 3:8–9; James 4:7; Ephesians 5:21)

May they be willing to humble themselves before You, for if they will, Your Word says You will guide them in what is right and teach them Your way, giving them grace and esteeming them in Your sight. Help them to show true humility toward all people, to clothe themselves with humility. (Psalm 25:9; Proverbs 3:34; Isaiah 66:2b; Titus 3:2b; 1 Peter 5:5b)

Make them daily more sensitive to pride in their lives, that they may confess it as the sin it is. In the power of the Spirit, may they choose humility over pride at every turn. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Dear Heavenly Father, I am grateful that You have shown me Your compassion many times over the years. Lord, may I become like You and show that same attribute to others, and especially the poor. Lord, bless me so that I might bless others who are needy. May I never turn my face away from those who are seeking help. Lord, if I am unable to give in a monetary way, may I always remember I can always give of my time and my prayers. Deliver me of any fear or insecurity that would keep me from being generous. May I always be a cheerful giver. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Dear heavenly Father, help us to see how divided we have become as a nation. We were founded by those who sought freedom to worship You as their sovereign God, and as a developing nation we attracted others who came to our shores to find freedom. ... Today, our problem is not with those who bring their own "religion" to our shores. Our problem is with a homegrown group, a generation who writes its own rules based on its desire to go through life pushing its own life-style, unencumbered by any regulations. ... Open our eyes to see the dangers that such a philosophy brings to any society, and especially to ours where there are many of all ages who do put their trust in You and honor their Judeo-Christian roots. ... Help all of us, Lord God, who sincerely believe in faith, family, and freedom. Hear our prayers as we seek to rebuild our nation's religious foundations. Let us pray daily for Your guidance.

In Jesus' holy name we pray.

Amen.
