Quote from "The Hummer"
The Hummer is a quarterly magazine published at Duffy's in Calistoga Californaia
"Please, Lord, teach us to laugh again; but God, don't ever let us forget that we cried." Bill Willson
Merry Christmas
Each year as the holidays roll round, we reflect on the wonderful adventure that sobriety has brought and acknowledge our heartfelt gratitude for Alcoholics Anonymous, the progran and the people.
For many, of course, this time of gift giving, closeness and reunion will fill the air with laughter and love. Children's eyes will sparkel, carols will be sung and those spiritual sounds celebrating the birth of the Child will ring through the night.
But, unfortunately, how sad this time will be for others. Somewhere, tears will be shed, separation and lonliness will cut deep. Shame, despair and remorse will blanket the trembling, sick bodies of those who have yet to come. We must never, never forget them!
Perhaps, as we gaze the dancing fires of the Yule log, we should pause in silent meditation, and in prayer, call upon God, not for ourselves, but rather for those who still suffer. For in giving our prayers to these, we will recieve the opportunity and ability to give them the great miracle of A.A. - a new way of life, free from the shackles of their own torment.
As we pass through this season, let us continue on throughout the year, praying for those who are here, for those who will be here, and especaily for those who should be here!
God bless you and yours, and may the God of your understanding, always walk with his hand in yours.
