To Feel Connected

Father, I'm praying for (name one or more) and others in my circle of family and friends who are lonely...

Help them to reach out, to put themselves in a position to find friends who can become closer than brothers. When they're lonely, don't let them withdraw but help them be willing to meet with others whenever they can, especially in churches. Help them become others-centered, genuinely serving and caring for others. (Proverbs 18:24b; Hebrews 10:25; Galatians 5:13b)

When they are physically distanced from family and friends, help them stay connected over the miles however they can, so they'll each know how the other is. (Ephesians 6:22)

More than anything, help them live in a close, personal relationship with You, knowing You better and loving You more everyday. May they come near You, for if they do, You've promised You'll come near them. Teach them what it means to live in Your love, searching for You with all their hearts, for You've promised they'll find You. (1 John 1:3; James 4:8a; John 15:9; Jeremiah 29:13)

Help them to know You not only as their Lord and God but as their brother and friend. (Jeremiah 9:24a; John 10:14; 20:28; Romans 8:29b; John 15:15)

In Jesus' name, amen.

Dear Heavenly Father, What wonderful advice we find written in the pages of the Bible. May we all adhere to the wisdom we find in it, and especially the wisdom given for kings. Lord, spiritually, You have made us kings and priests, so we need to act like a king and a priest. We need to be wise and holy, so we can rule and reign in a dark and evil world. Deliver us from all things that would cause us to have poor judgment and give us Your wisdom. May I live a righteous life before the world and be a true and faithful witness for You. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

December 19

Dear Lord, I hesitated to turn my life over to You for fear of what You might ask me to do - preach a sermon, hand out tracts, take a vow of poverty. But Lord, when I obeyed You, Your Spirit directed me to get my life in order - to clean out the closets of my house and the closets of my heart - to FORGIVE and FORGET, even when I have been right. Lord, what peace and joy are ours when we surrender to You! Help me to be obedient to You and to trust You in all things.

In Jesus' name I pray.

Amen.

Dead and Risen

Colossians 2:20-3:2

Dear Father,

Help me to realize that I have died and have been resurrected with Christ. Break the attachments of my old life and its bondage.

Don't let me live as if life were a matter of keeping regulations - don't touch, don't taste, don't handle - but let me live out of a deep sense of love and loyalty to my Savior.

Don't let me grasp for that which has merely an appearance of wisdom and which might make a show of religiosity but not really do anything to separate me from the pride and lusts of my fleshly nature.

Rather let me seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at your right hand. Let me set my mind on the things that are above, not on things that are on the earth.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.
