Follow God, not the crowd.
Pray that our will be laid aside and that God’s will direct us.
Pray when you feel discouraged.
God accepts anyone who turns to Him.
God accepts us as we are.
God always keeps His word.
God always provides what is good for us whether it is painful or pleasurable, whether we like it or not, whether we know it or not.
God always was, God always is, God always will be.
God appears in our world when we move aside, and allow Him to step in.
God brings good out of bad circumstances.
God can and will change our circumstances but first He is going to use them to change us.
God can be trusted even when we can’t predict the outcome.
God can be trusted forever to remain just how He is today.
God can create something beautiful out of the ruined past.
God can do more then we could ever imagine.
God can live anywhere in the universe, yet He chooses to live in us.
God can make a way when we don’t think there is a way.
Prayer is our best help when trials come our way because it keeps us in communion with God.

Have you ever wondered why we go through the things we do?
God said:
If you never felt pain, then how would you know that I’m a Healer?
If you never went through difficulties, how would you know that I’m a Deliverer?
If you never had a trial, how could you call yourself an over comer?
If you never felt sadness, how would you know that I’m a Comforter?
If you never made a mistake, how would you know that I’m forgiving?
If you knew all, how would you know that I will answer your questions?
If you never were in trouble, how would you know that I will come to your rescue?
If you never were broken, then how would know that I can make you whole?
If you never had a problem, how would you know that I can solve them?
If you never had any suffering, then how would you know what Jesus went through?
If you never went through the fire, then how would you become pure?
If I gave you all things, how would you appreciate them?
If I never corrected you, how would you know that I love you?
If you had all power, then how would you learn to depend on me?
If your life was perfect, then what would you need Me for?

PARABLE OF THE PENCIL
The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. "There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil, "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be."
"One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone's hand."
"Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil."
"Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make."
"Four: The most important part of you will always be what's inside."
"And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write."
The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.
Now replace the place of the pencil with yourself. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.

Integrity Moment: Renewing Your Mind by Rick Boxx
As a private school board member, I was invited to preview their potential new building: an abandoned school. It was dirty and in disrepair, chipped tiles and faded paint everywhere, and larger and more expensive than I thought we needed.
It certainly wasn't my first choice.
Fast-forward several months to the same building -- warmth, bright colors and sparkling floors everywhere, and even more children than before, enough to fill the place.
My "lone voice of dissent" turned out to be the voice of limitation -- my lack of vision for what God could do.
Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is."
To accomplish big things in life, we can't limit the possibilities. Instead, we must renew our minds. Caution and reason are important, yes, but not if they limit God's will. At decision-making time, meditate on what God is capable of accomplishing!

Be Not Afraid by Donna Hutchison Parker
How many times did our Lord have to relay that message to his people? Jesus and the disciples were physically and emotionally exhausted. Herod had just murdered Jesus' cousin, John the baptizer. Jesus wanted some time alone, but the multitudes followed him even to a desolate place.
Jesus' compassion caused him to put their needs ahead of his own. He healed their sick and fed five thousand men, plus women and children, with five loaves and two fish. He sent the disciples away in a boat, then
dismissed the multitudes and finally went up the mountain alone to pray. The disciples didn’t make much headway across the sea because of contrary winds. In the night, Jesus came walking on the water toward them. When they saw him, they "were frightened, saying, 'It is a ghost!' And they cried out with fear" (Matthew 14:26 NASB).
Like all of our God-given talents and abilities, imagination can be used for good or ill. Satan tempts us to use it to imagine the worst in every situation. It’s one of his most effective tools. Imagining the worst creates and feeds fear and distracts us from our Light and our Salvation.
Jesus replied to the terrified disciples, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid" (v. 27).
We Christians need to write these comforting words boldly across our hearts and stake them at the front gate of our imaginations. When we're faced with sickness, tragedy, evil, it may seem humanly impossible not to be terrified and imagine the very worst outcomes. In those times, we must remember that Jesus is with us as surely as he was with Peter and the others in that boat. He is calling us, as he called them, to greater triumphs than the human part of us can accomplish alone.
That's one of the most beautiful blessings of being a Christian. As long as we are walking in the light, we never have to face anything alone. Not only will he be with us through our earthly trials, in Romans 8:28 we learn that "God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God…" All things. Whether or not we can see it happening.
The disciples' imaginations created a ghost that terrified them. Jesus comforted them and turned their fear into an opportunity to increase their faith. Terrors will attack us on this earth. Satan will use them to try to destroy our faith. Let's take the hand of Jesus and, with his help, use them instead to grow in faith.
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not look anxiously about you, for I am your God: I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

Starting a job is usually easier than finishing it.
It's easier to sign to sign up for a ball team, than it is to get in shape, practice every day, play the games, and complete the season. It's easier to sign the purchase agreement for a new car than it is to maintain it, wash it, and then make payments on it for 60 months.
Likewise, it's easier to decide to follow Christ, confess His name, and be immersed for the remission of sins than it is to face real hardship, overcome discouragement, and do what is right on a daily basis. But if we hope to enjoy eternity with God in heaven, we must learn to finish. Paul once wrote, "I have fought the good fight, I have FINISHED the race..." ( 2 Timothy 4:7; emphasis mine--mb; cf. Acts 20:24).
It's not enough that we get started, we must also finish. Are you trying to finish your job for the Lord? Give it some thought.

The Trail by Paula Harrington
Every October, for the past few years, my family and I have participated in a church retreat at Fall Creek Falls State Park in southeastern Tennessee. The park features the largest waterfall east of the Mississippi River and many hiking trails.
Each evening we have a devotional and each day we take advantage of the many trails in the park. Some trails are pleasant strolls through the beautiful landscape, but there is one trail that is much more challenging. It is called the Cable Trail. The trail gets its name from the steel cable that runs from the top to the bottom of the gulf. In order to hike the trail, you must lower yourself down and pull yourself up while holding onto the cable.
Life isn't much different than hiking the Cable Trail. The way down isn't too tough and passes quickly, yet we seldom realize on the way down that we’re leading ourselves into captivity. We’re feeling good, taking chances, and venturing into unknown territory. Yet, at the same time, we’re sealing our fate.
Ascending the Cable Trail is another story. Pulling yourself up is much more strenuous than lowering yourself down. It takes more concentration and more determination to get back up the trail. As I was pulling myself up, I found that it was sometimes easier to veer off the trail. In some places due to the vegetation or rocks, it was easier to go sideways instead of straight up, however this didn't lead me where I wanted to go. With the help and encouragement of good friends and a goal in mind, I finally reached the top.
Jesus is our lifeline. Stronger than steel, he guides us to safety and peace. Even though we may become tired, we must never lose our focus and let go of him.
Our walk should lead us straight to Christ, yet many times we get off track. We change directions when faced with difficult situations or veer off to the side in search of easier terrain, however we only postpone the inevitable.
Our life is leading us to one of two places and we must never let go of the cable that will lead us upward no matter how treacherous the hike may become. The apostle Paul instructs us to be careful how we walk Ephesians 5:15 NASV) and we should always remember that there is a victory waiting if we carefully proceed on the sometimes perilous trail.

No time to pray
Prayers are the food of the soul, they open the door to Heaven and they lead us to God.
Prayers are like phone calls to God, they surely get the message across.
Prayers are like arrows that pierce through the clouds, they go straight to Heaven with our petitions and desires.
Prayers are the expression of the soul, they are a private conversation between man and God.
Prayers are not only petitions, they are also adoration, praise and thanksgiving.
Pray without ceasing [1Thess 5:17], pray in the Spirit [Eph 6:18] says St. Paul.
Pray with your mind, but also pray in the Spirit [1Cor 14:15]
Pray that our God will give you a Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation as you come to know Him [Eph. 1:17]
Pray for the sick, pray for one another [James 5:14-16]
Pray that you don't fall into temptation [Luke 22:46]

Small Straws In A Soft Wind by Marsha Burns
I have established my covenant with you to make you exceedingly fruitful if you will circumcise the foreskin of your heart. That is to cut off your fleshly desires and allow Me to be your desire. Yet, I see multitudes who lust after man's attention and approval and who wish to be exalted and recognized outwardly. This is self-focus, fear of man, and idolatry. If you will walk in the Spirit you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, says the Lord. Arise in the Spirit and be done with this folly.
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
I had a vision of a ball of string that just kept unraveling and there were knots and tangles to be undone. And, I realized that we are being made aware by the Spirit of God of things that have created confusion and complexities in our lives. This unraveling represents the process of resolving issues and of separating ourselves from things that keep us entangled.
Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
When we move in the flow of the Holy Spirit, we are in a river of anointing, each drop in a particular flow, not mindful of itself, but in continuous motion of unity and power with the whole -- in perfect order. There is no striving or division; it is one river of power carrying divine purpose, moving joyfully and willingly to its destination. As I see this river by the Spirit, I hear the music of its movement as a mighty army marching to the beat of a spiritual drummer with the strength and force of its Commander. Joel 2:7-8 They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like men of war; every one marches in formation, and they do not break ranks. They do not push one another; every one marches in his own column. Though they lunge between the weapons, they are not cut down.
Beloved, if you will release yourself from the oppression and bondage of difficult situations and trust Me in them, you will find that you are in the flow of resolution. I have heard the cry of your heart, and the answers are forthcoming. The light will shine and answers will come in unexpected ways. No need to strive or worry; just rest in faith, says the Lord. Hebrews 4:10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

Do you hear the sound of My rain, children? When you hear the sound of the raindrops of heaven that form the pools of water upon the ground, you will hear Me call to you to come. I am calling the water-walkers of this time, those that will set all limitations aside and say, "If the Lord is calling me to come, then I can." I say to you come, and walk on the water with Me. It will be a delightful experience. You will begin to understand that you are not just flesh and blood, but you are spirit. As a spiritual child, you will be able to do what I do. Walking above the storms of life shall be your delight. Walking over all the works of the enemy shall be your victory. Come now to a new level of faith and understanding. I say again, do you hear the sound of the rain? The pools that form will become a river of My grace and glory, which gives life in abundance, says the Lord.

Traveling On Your Knees
Last night I took a journey
To a land across the seas.
I didn't go by ship or plane
I traveled on my knees.
I saw so many people there
In bondage to their sin,
And Jesus told me I should go,
That there were souls to win.

Do Not Worry

Favoritism Forbidden
1My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. 2Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. 3If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," 4have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? 5Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6But you have insulted the poor. TOO BUSY TO PRAY
As you got up this morning, I watched you and hoped you would talk to me, even if it was just a few words, asking my opinion or thanking me for something good that happened in your life yesterday--but I noticed you were too busy trying to find the right outfit to put on and wear to work. I waited again.
When you ran around the house getting ready, I knew there would be a few minutes for you to stop and say hello, but you were too busy. At one point you had to wait fifteen minutes with nothing to do except sit in a chair. Then I saw you spring to your feet. I thought you wanted to talk to me but you ran to the phone and called a friend to get the latest gossip.
I watched as you went to work and I waited patiently all day long. With all your activities I guess you were too busy to say anything to me. I noticed that before lunch you looked around, maybe you felt embarrassed to talk to me, that is why you didn’t bow your head. You glanced three or four tables over and you noticed some of your friends talking to me briefly before they ate, but you didn’t. That’s okay. There is still more time left, and I have hope that you will talk to me yet you went home and it seems as if you had lots of things to do.
After a few of them were done you turned on the TV, I don’t know if you like TV or not, just about anything goes there and you spent a lot of time each day in front of it, not thinking about anything--just enjoying the show. I waited patiently again as you watched the TV and ate your meal, but again you didn’t talk to me. At bedtime I guess you felt too tired.
After you said goodnight to your family you plopped into bed and fell asleep in no time. That’s okay because you may not realize that I am always there for you. I’ve got patience, more than you will ever know. I even want to teach you how to be patient with others as well. I love you so much that I wait everyday for a nod, prayer or thought or a thankful part of your heart. It is hard to have a one-sided conversation.
Well, you are getting up again and once again I will wait with nothing but love for you hoping that today you will give me some time. Have a nice day! Your friend, God

Dear Lord, I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I’m blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said, or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God’s eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing and receive the forgiveness of You. And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus’ example--to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It’s the best response when I’m pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can’t pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those who are lost and can’t find their way. I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don’t know You intimately. I pray for those who don’t believe. I thank you that I believe. I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray that everyone knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than You, that every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Integrity Moment: Renewing Your Mind by Rick Boxx
As a private school board member, I was invited to preview their potential new building: an abandoned school. It was dirty and in disrepair, chipped tiles and faded paint everywhere, and larger and more expensive than I thought we needed.
It certainly wasn't my first choice.
Fast-forward several months to the same building -- warmth, bright colors and sparkling floors everywhere, and even more children than before, enough to fill the place.
My "lone voice of dissent" turned out to be the voice of limitation -- my lack of vision for what God could do.
Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is."
To accomplish big things in life, we can't limit the possibilities. Instead, we must renew our minds. Caution and reason are important, yes, but not if they limit God's will. At decision-making time, meditate on what God is capable of accomplishing!

Be Not Afraid by Donna Hutchison Parker
How many times did our Lord have to relay that message to his people? Jesus and the disciples were physically and emotionally exhausted. Herod had just murdered Jesus' cousin, John the baptizer. Jesus wanted some time alone, but the multitudes followed him even to a desolate place.
Jesus' compassion caused him to put their needs ahead of his own. He healed their sick and fed five thousand men, plus women and children, with five loaves and two fish. He sent the disciples away in a boat, then
dismissed the multitudes and finally went up the mountain alone to pray. The disciples didn’t make much headway across the sea because of contrary winds. In the night, Jesus came walking on the water toward them. When they saw him, they "were frightened, saying, 'It is a ghost!' And they cried out with fear" (Matthew 14:26 NASB).
Like all of our God-given talents and abilities, imagination can be used for good or ill. Satan tempts us to use it to imagine the worst in every situation. It’s one of his most effective tools. Imagining the worst creates and feeds fear and distracts us from our Light and our Salvation.
Jesus replied to the terrified disciples, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid" (v. 27).
We Christians need to write these comforting words boldly across our hearts and stake them at the front gate of our imaginations. When we're faced with sickness, tragedy, evil, it may seem humanly impossible not to be terrified and imagine the very worst outcomes. In those times, we must remember that Jesus is with us as surely as he was with Peter and the others in that boat. He is calling us, as he called them, to greater triumphs than the human part of us can accomplish alone.
That's one of the most beautiful blessings of being a Christian. As long as we are walking in the light, we never have to face anything alone. Not only will he be with us through our earthly trials, in Romans 8:28 we learn that "God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God…" All things. Whether or not we can see it happening.
The disciples' imaginations created a ghost that terrified them. Jesus comforted them and turned their fear into an opportunity to increase their faith. Terrors will attack us on this earth. Satan will use them to try to destroy our faith. Let's take the hand of Jesus and, with his help, use them instead to grow in faith.
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not look anxiously about you, for I am your God: I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

Starting a job is usually easier than finishing it.
It's easier to sign to sign up for a ball team, than it is to get in shape, practice every day, play the games, and complete the season. It's easier to sign the purchase agreement for a new car than it is to maintain it, wash it, and then make payments on it for 60 months.
Likewise, it's easier to decide to follow Christ, confess His name, and be immersed for the remission of sins than it is to face real hardship, overcome discouragement, and do what is right on a daily basis. But if we hope to enjoy eternity with God in heaven, we must learn to finish. Paul once wrote, "I have fought the good fight, I have FINISHED the race..." ( 2 Timothy 4:7; emphasis mine--mb; cf. Acts 20:24).
It's not enough that we get started, we must also finish. Are you trying to finish your job for the Lord? Give it some thought.

The Trail by Paula Harrington
Every October, for the past few years, my family and I have participated in a church retreat at Fall Creek Falls State Park in southeastern Tennessee. The park features the largest waterfall east of the Mississippi River and many hiking trails.
Each evening we have a devotional and each day we take advantage of the many trails in the park. Some trails are pleasant strolls through the beautiful landscape, but there is one trail that is much more challenging. It is called the Cable Trail. The trail gets its name from the steel cable that runs from the top to the bottom of the gulf. In order to hike the trail, you must lower yourself down and pull yourself up while holding onto the cable.
Life isn't much different than hiking the Cable Trail. The way down isn't too tough and passes quickly, yet we seldom realize on the way down that we’re leading ourselves into captivity. We’re feeling good, taking chances, and venturing into unknown territory. Yet, at the same time, we’re sealing our fate.
Ascending the Cable Trail is another story. Pulling yourself up is much more strenuous than lowering yourself down. It takes more concentration and more determination to get back up the trail. As I was pulling myself up, I found that it was sometimes easier to veer off the trail. In some places due to the vegetation or rocks, it was easier to go sideways instead of straight up, however this didn't lead me where I wanted to go. With the help and encouragement of good friends and a goal in mind, I finally reached the top.
Jesus is our lifeline. Stronger than steel, he guides us to safety and peace. Even though we may become tired, we must never lose our focus and let go of him.
Our walk should lead us straight to Christ, yet many times we get off track. We change directions when faced with difficult situations or veer off to the side in search of easier terrain, however we only postpone the inevitable.
Our life is leading us to one of two places and we must never let go of the cable that will lead us upward no matter how treacherous the hike may become. The apostle Paul instructs us to be careful how we walk Ephesians 5:15 NASV) and we should always remember that there is a victory waiting if we carefully proceed on the sometimes perilous trail.

Prayers are like phone calls to God, they surely get the message across.
Prayers are like arrows that pierce through the clouds, they go straight to Heaven with our petitions and desires.

Prayers are not only petitions, they are also adoration, praise and thanksgiving.

Pray that our God will give you a Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation as you come to know Him [Eph. 1:17]

I have established my covenant with you to make you exceedingly fruitful if you will circumcise the foreskin of your heart. That is to cut off your fleshly desires and allow Me to be your desire. Yet, I see multitudes who lust after man's attention and approval and who wish to be exalted and recognized outwardly. This is self-focus, fear of man, and idolatry. If you will walk in the Spirit you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, says the Lord. Arise in the Spirit and be done with this folly.
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
I had a vision of a ball of string that just kept unraveling and there were knots and tangles to be undone. And, I realized that we are being made aware by the Spirit of God of things that have created confusion and complexities in our lives. This unraveling represents the process of resolving issues and of separating ourselves from things that keep us entangled.
Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
When we move in the flow of the Holy Spirit, we are in a river of anointing, each drop in a particular flow, not mindful of itself, but in continuous motion of unity and power with the whole -- in perfect order. There is no striving or division; it is one river of power carrying divine purpose, moving joyfully and willingly to its destination. As I see this river by the Spirit, I hear the music of its movement as a mighty army marching to the beat of a spiritual drummer with the strength and force of its Commander. Joel 2:7-8 They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like men of war; every one marches in formation, and they do not break ranks. They do not push one another; every one marches in his own column. Though they lunge between the weapons, they are not cut down.
Beloved, if you will release yourself from the oppression and bondage of difficult situations and trust Me in them, you will find that you are in the flow of resolution. I have heard the cry of your heart, and the answers are forthcoming. The light will shine and answers will come in unexpected ways. No need to strive or worry; just rest in faith, says the Lord. Hebrews 4:10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

It will be a delightful experience. You will begin to understand that you are not just flesh and blood, but you are spirit. As a spiritual child, you will be able to do what I do. Walking above the storms of life shall be your delight. Walking over all the works of the enemy shall be your victory. Come now to a new level of faith and understanding. Favoritism Forbidden

TOO BUSY TO PRAY
As you got up this morning, I watched you and hoped you would talk to me, even if it was just a few words, asking my opinion or thanking me for something good that happened in your life yesterday--but I noticed you were too busy trying to find the right outfit to put on and wear to work. I waited again.
When you ran around the house getting ready, I knew there would be a few minutes for you to stop and say hello, but you were too busy. At one point you had to wait fifteen minutes with nothing to do except sit in a chair. Then I saw you spring to your feet. I thought you wanted to talk to me but you ran to the phone and called a friend to get the latest gossip.
I watched as you went to work and I waited patiently all day long. With all your activities I guess you were too busy to say anything to me. I noticed that before lunch you looked around, maybe you felt embarrassed to talk to me, that is why you didn’t bow your head. You glanced three or four tables over and you noticed some of your friends talking to me briefly before they ate, but you didn’t. That’s okay. There is still more time left, and I have hope that you will talk to me yet you went home and it seems as if you had lots of things to do.
After a few of them were done you turned on the TV, I don’t know if you like TV or not, just about anything goes there and you spent a lot of time each day in front of it, not thinking about anything--just enjoying the show. I waited patiently again as you watched the TV and ate your meal, but again you didn’t talk to me. At bedtime I guess you felt too tired.
After you said goodnight to your family you plopped into bed and fell asleep in no time. That’s okay because you may not realize that I am always there for you. I’ve got patience, more than you will ever know. I even want to teach you how to be patient with others as well. I love you so much that I wait everyday for a nod, prayer or thought or a thankful part of your heart. It is hard to have a one-sided conversation.

Dear Lord, I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I’m blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said, or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God’s eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing and receive the forgiveness of You. And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus’ example--to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It’s the best response when I’m pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can’t pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those who are lost and can’t find their way. I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don’t know You intimately. I pray for those who don’t believe. I thank you that I believe. I believe that God changes people and God changes things. The First Census of Israel
1 Now the LORD spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying: 2 “Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male individually, 3 from twenty years old and above—all who are able to go to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their armies. 4 And with you there shall be a man from every tribe, each one the head of his father’s house. 5 “These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: from Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur; 6 from Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; 7 from Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab; 8 from Issachar, Nethanel the son of Zuar; 9 from Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon; 10 from the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; 11 from Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni; 12 from Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; 13 from Asher, Pagiel the son of Ocran; 14 from Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel; 15 from Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan.” 16 These were chosen from the congregation, leaders of their fathers’ tribes, heads of the divisions in Israel. 17 Then Moses and Aaron took these men who had been mentioned by name, 18 and they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they recited their ancestry by families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, each one individually. 19 As the LORD commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the Wilderness of Sinai.
20 Now the children of Reuben, Israel’s oldest son, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, every male individually, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 21 those who were numbered of the tribe of Reuben were forty-six thousand five hundred. 22 From the children of Simeon, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, of those who were numbered, according to the number of names, every male individually, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 23 those who were numbered of the tribe of Simeon were fifty-nine thousand three hundred. 24 From the children of Gad, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 25 those who were numbered of the tribe of Gad were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty. 26 From the children of Judah, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 27 those who were numbered of the tribe of Judah were seventy-four thousand six hundred. 28 From the children of Issachar, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 29 those who were numbered of the tribe of Issachar were fifty-four thousand four hundred.
30 From the children of Zebulun, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 31 those who were numbered of the tribe of Zebulun were fifty-seven thousand four hundred. 32 From the sons of Joseph, the children of Ephraim, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 33 those who were numbered of the tribe of Ephraim were forty thousand five hundred. 34 From the children of Manasseh, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 35 those who were numbered of the tribe of Manasseh were thirty-two thousand two hundred. 36 From the children of Benjamin, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 37 those who were numbered of the tribe of Benjamin were thirty-five thousand four hundred. 38 From the children of Dan, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 39 those who were numbered of the tribe of Dan were sixty-two thousand seven hundred. 40 From the children of Asher, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 41 those who were numbered of the tribe of Asher were forty-one thousand five hundred.
42 From the children of Naphtali, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war: 43 those who were numbered of the tribe of Naphtali were fifty-three thousand four hundred. 44 These are the ones who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, with the leaders of Israel, twelve men, each one representing his father’s house. 45 So all who were numbered of the children of Israel, by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war in Israel— 46 all who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. 47 But the Levites were not numbered among them by their fathers’ tribe; 48 for the LORD had spoken to Moses, saying: 49 “Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, nor take a census of them among the children of Israel; 50 but you shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the Testimony, over all its furnishings, and over all things that belong to it; they shall carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they shall attend to it and camp around the tabernacle. 51 And when the tabernacle is to go forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The outsider who comes near shall be put to death. 52 The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, everyone by his own camp, everyone by his own standard, according to their armies; 53 but the Levites shall camp around the tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel; and the Levites shall keep charge of the tabernacle of the Testimony.”
54 Thus the children of Israel did; according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so they did.

Lord, make us channels of thy peace. That where there is hatred--we may bring love, that where there is wrong--we may bring the spirit of forgiveness, that where there is discord--we may bring harmony, that where there is error--we may bring truth, that where there is doubt--we may bring faith, that where there is despair--we may bring hope, that where there are shadows--we may bring light, that where there is sadness--we may bring joy. Lord grant: that we may seek rather to comfort--than to be comforted, that we may seek to understand--than to be understood, that we may seek to love--than to be loved. For: it is by self-forgetting--that we find, it is by forgiving--that we are forgiven, it is by dying--that we awaken to Eternal Live. Amen.
