Get It Through Your Head - Scripture Memory
I have treasured Your word in my heart
so that I may not sin against You.
Psalm 119:11, Holman Christian Standard Bible
Admit it -- there are some things you've committed to memory. Either it's song lyrics, or movie lines, or your favorite player's home run totals. You pay enough attention to certain, interesting aspects of life that its minutest details have become common knowledge to you.
Know what, though? This time next year, you'll have a hard time remembering who even played in last year's Super Bowl, though at the time it seemed so important. You'll forget who ran against the governor in the previous election, though at the time you devoured every article on the race. You'll lose track of the TV story line that used to keep you awake nights trying to figure out what was going to happen next week.
"But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you" (John 14:26). If you'll load up on the words of life instead of filling your mind with forgettable facts, you'll place within constant reach the right word for every situation.
