Ugh. Tough reality to face when you realise you can't drink. Of course, I've believed I can continue to drink as long as I keep it in check and of course I cannot keep it in check.

I went to an AA meeting for woman only, but it was a birthday party and mainly I heard some heartbreaking stories.

What is the actual concept of AA? Has anyone tried at home programs like "Change your Mind about Drinking" ?

HI ellen welcome. I'm sure that people do recover at home or with home programs. I have not heard of any except for when people use on line recovery to help them. I go to AA and it has helped me out a lot. The actual concept of AA is easy. "not to drink for 24 hours at a time" Then there is the steps to take to help you change your life so you can continue to stay sober. Ofcourse there is the higher power part of it all and asking him for help. There is 12 traditions to help keep the group from going under or over the top. Sponcership is when another member with sober time helps guides you through the program of AA. I hope I helped some and not confused you LOL. have a great night and keep coming back.

Hi Ellen, try some other meetings get around and get to know people. You will either hear the story you need to, or meet some one that has what you want. When I was new to the program, my sponsor told I only needed to go to one meeting a week, but I'd better hit 6 to 7 so I don't miss the one I need.

hi ellen,
just try other meetings. for now, it will occupy your time, you may meet some people you can identify with and maybe you'll stick around. The great thing is there are no musts in AA, you are not required to do anything, show up and listen. some will suggestions to keep you sober and you'll meet some people who want to help you in your struggle to stay sober.. it's really is as simple as that...

You can do it. Try 90 meetings in 90 days, if you feel that that's too much..try one meeting a day for 90 days and see how it goes! LOL.

Hi Ellen.. glad to have ya here. 24 hours at a time , it's that simple . Getting a meting in atleast once during those time periods ( sometime twice) is a great place to start. It kinda grows on ya pretty quick. Ya ain't gotta do noth'n but don't drink (eccept coffee... lots and lots of coffee) and Just kick back and listen. That's what I did 7 years ago , I think I'll finally believe it works...
