I got through it without drinking. I guess I was too busy to think about it. Nonetheless here is what happened. Timing is a true *****.

I got a call Saturday evening around 10 PM that my Dad (75 yrs old) was in a car accident (he's ok!). Turns out he was at my ex-wife's house visiting with my daughter while my ex had some of her family over. Guess what? He was drinking and my ex let him drive home and he rear-ended someone about a mile away from his house. Needless to say he got arrested for DUI. Blew a 1.6 and my ex says to me "he only had 2 drinks". So now I go down to the jail and they tell me he can't get out for a minimum of 8 hours so I return home about 1AM Sunday and go to sleep. I get up at 6 AM to go back to the Jail. Stop at the bail bonds place ($500 bail) to give him $100 to get the bond. Walk over to the jail with him to hand in all the paperwork. Then I proceed to get different stories depending on who I talk to on what time he will be released. Sat there until 3 PM when they finally let him out.

I have to say that originally I was pissed. But I thought about it and turned it over to my HP since there's nothing I can do about it. So when my Dad finally got out I did my best to practice honesty, humility and support. I think in the end that made me feel much better than giving him a hard time about it.

So I got him home and to bed. Go home, call my boss to let her know that I need Monday off to take care of the situation. Thank God my boss always understands and insists on "Family First". Monday all day I took care of the insurance, where the car was, paperwork, phone calls, attorney, etc. I didn't get home from all of that until almost 8PM. Just in time for my Men's group AA meeting on Monday evenings.

In the end it wasn't so bad cause I practiced what is preached and felt a whole lot better for doing so. A month ago I would given my Dad crap for a month every day of the week. Today, humility and honesty are huge for me. Thank God for all of you and this program.:195:
