If you haver no meeting I say do what it takes to stay sober.Isnt there a story in the big book about a guy who finds the big book and follows the directions and stays sober for yrs alot of yrs before he even made a meeting.Anyone know were that story is?Well I just phoned my sponsor to ask were it was and he said he remembers it may have been in the first or second edition. He mentioned getting into the phone book double checking for AA.The point is if you follow the directions with another alky who has done this stuff. And thats the most important thing.Someone who has done this stuff.I would be god would help you in tough situations

Hi Phil and welcome.
I have an online sponsor as I am not able to get to meetings very easily either; I live outside of a small country town 100kms from the city.
I say do whatever it takes to stay clean/sober my friend!!
The "how to?" : I had spent some time online here before I approached someone that I felt comfortable with and whose values and beliefs I found to be what I'd like in a sponsor. I have a different sponsor now, due to circumstances, again however the person I asked to Step me was someone I had known for a while via a recovery site.
Having never been to meetings and not having a f2f sponsor I am not able to give any comparative between that and an online sponsor.
As you suggested, there is web-camming, also the forums, chat, online meetings, email etc to maintain continuous contact with an online sponsor, work the Steps, and be in touch with other AA ers / N/A ers.
I have had relapses, however so have those who attend meetings and have a f2f sponsor. Occasionally I do feel a strong need to be f2f with like minded folk, however I have always found over the past 3+ years that there is nearly always someone available to 'talk' to online and that's pretty good considering I am in totally different time zone here in Australia.
Hope I have been of some assistance to you here.
"hang in there", what is meant to be will be, i.e. when you feel someone is right you will know.
